Hello members of...... well I guess GL for now. I know it has been confusing the last few days so let me clear things up and lay out the future plans.

On Thursday night the owner of EGS filed a common law trademark on my EG. Though I was not afraid to fight it and eventually win, victory would only lead to bad blood between our two sites. Since they are currently the largest site, obvious decision is obvious as to what to do.

Now then, I'm trying to settle on a new permanent name that will avoid recent trouble. I have no input from our vice admin as I fear his lack of internet has come at a horrible time.

Coming up with a new will take sometime unfortunately but I'm not about to let my work fall into limbo. Should no other name be suggested by this Friday we will permanently use the name Gaming Latest. Which isn't a bad name.

Then by the weekend's end I'll have all the images rebranded and reuploaded to the site and then I'll go on to get everything back on track.

While I wait for the name changes, I'll finish up the help topics and trophy images.

I deeply apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you but I am thankful little downtime has come from this.

Should you have the old edge gamer domain link book marked or saved in some form, please remove it asap and either update it to the new link or the redirecting gamingforce.us link! The EG link will be discontinued soon.

If you have any questions or name suggestions, leave them here.

Thanks for going public about this, think it was a good idea. Although we probably could have used the name without problems its best not to create a negative reputation with a larger gaming community, we're sorry for messing the members around and hopefully by the end of next week we will have a solid stance for everything and be able to get back to normal.

Did you have your heart set on a .com domain? You could have just named it GamingForums (dot) any of the new domains that are available on NameCheap (.me, .us, .xyz...).

People and as far as I'm aware SEO take better to .com than any other domain. Not sure if it was because we were riding on the Edgegamers name or not, but since going to a .com domain I observed our internet traffic nearly quadrupling in the first few weeks with very little SEO work done, something I'll be showcasing soon.

Man........do you know how many lawsuit claims by idiot kids I get per year for dinosaurfact.net? (About 70) One was discovery channel.
Currently there is
dinosaurfacts.com dinosaurfact.com dinosaurfacts.net and all sites that are copy and pasted from my own network. I can't do jack and I wouldn't care to.
They didn't FILE nothing. They joined your forum and mouthed you off. Lawyers and lawsuits don't work that way.

You cannot be sued for any of that. It doesn't matter how serious these clowns act because companies that sue "DO NOT" enter a forum and private message you. They SUE. they also don't have lawyers email you too. This is ridiculous.
In order to be sued they have to have a patent on the word "edge" which is impossible considering there are thousands of companies that use that word.

You are destroying the credibility of the forum by swapping new names because of these raccoons who are talking smack. Seriously dude, stop, please.

I have been buying and selling networks online for 20yrs. I have owned over 400 sites in my life.

I may tolerate a stupid Xenforo conversion but I'm not going to be enrolling in this domain bounce crap. Ditching a 10yr old domain and starting over with a new domain is the WORST idea of bad ideas. You'll find that out when your visitor traffic goes completely dead for the next 5yrs.

If companies want to lock their names in then they will buy out all of the domains related. If they cannot afford it then they cannot afford a $100,000 lawsuit.......and no lawyer is going cross federal gov'ts to sue against a non-profit site. So stupid....stupid...stupid...stupid. I should ping their server until it throws up.

The next time you are afraid of big words thrown in a message online you should just transfer the domain in my name and release my email for them to contact me which.........in which they will jabber about their fancy copyrights and I'll just tell them to piss off.

There is no difference in SEO for extensions except for .info. and country based extensions. The .us that you had was not very good for that but it doesn't make a huge difference.

Like I said, people don't talk to the person they want to sue. This is kids stuff.

Also they have to pay in the beginning and if they win THEN they get back that money. And also again.........no lawyer is going to sue a random dude in college who doesn't earn a penny. You should have told them to get lost

If only I knew this back then.

Well here is my official stance on this as owner of Gamingforce.us, Edgegamer.com and gaminglastest.com.

I've never been hit with a threat of Trademark Infringement and at the time did I what I felt would protect myself and my investments. I still stand by the decision as they have the larger community, a larger one that makes no sense for a small time forum like us to go against. A website doesn't get to places by making trouble which would be best describe as winning the battle (ownership of the name) but losing the war (being a community free of trouble and making a name of our own).

To quote TFS's alucard, "I pussed out like a bitch" on this. I assure you though Edge Gamer isn't done yet.

and should there be a lawsuit J-RAY AidsorHIV you're taking one for the team buddy :p

I don't even know which domain had the complaint.........
http://www.edgegames.com or http://www.edge-gamers.com.........or maybe it was that local radio station in my city. EDGE radio(http://www.edge.ca)

Just to be clear the first company did try to own the word edge and sued a slew of local companies. Of course only companies that profit well within california. The only company that has ever successfully sued a regular everyday person for domains was Microsoft. Companies and lawyers do not pursue lawsuits against individuals who are not rich. The lawyer would have told the guys that it's stupid to run $100,000 of court bills against someone who can pay in gummybears and college text books. As soon as the lawyer found out you don't have a business license they would laugh and say "Let's sue a random yahoo answers individual who hates your network".

I don't care if you ditch teh edge, but for the love of God, do not switch again. There are things in the world that should never be changed. The name of your site and your childs' name.

Damn this does suck, but I wouldnt be too hard on myself DS.. people have sued over less, such as popularity.. one forum that was really popular had an active member leave a scathing opinion of this product that they had used and they said that because it malfunctioned and could've seriously injured them, and they had shitty customer service, they said they'd never buy the product or buy from the company again and advised others to be careful when considering buying from them.

To make a long story short, someone from the company caught wind of the post and after some unsuccessful demands for the posts' removal, decided to sue the admin for slander, and argued that the sites popularity could affect the company's business..

The admin took the fight to court and had to take the post down. I guess it was a case of one side having better lawyers than the other..

It is a damn shame that people are so litigious nowadays..

It's California. They are sue happy.

Well meh. Life goes on and so does gaming(at least when summer is over and they start releasing more stuff)

the first one is being squatted on by some Chinese people. So it be the second, who can get the original domain link. And yeah, I think we will stick with Gaming Latest NO one uses the name.

yep, time to get back to gaming folks.

Shucks...that's just too much.
When you purchase a domain, you can do whatever you want with it. I can't believe this mess.
