Will Sony do another handheld?

Nintendo has always been top dog when it comes to the handhelds (that may just be my opinion). This is probably why Microsoft hasn't gotten into making handhelds.

I think no matter what they will always make another handheld especially if they come up with some unique ideas. How does the VITA and PS4 work with streaming? Is the quality good?

Yeah I looked at some gameplay of GTA 5 being streamed onto it and it looked quite cool I have to say. Shame it's only available on the same wifi network

What even is the viability of handhelds in this day and age? Seems to me kids are bigger into mobile quick games than playing on either a Vita or 3DS.

Is there room for a console that basically runs stripped down versions of home console games though? Because that's the difference between Sony's handhelds and Nintendo's; the latter gets games designed for the system (and how it's used), the former gets cut down console games that don't really make sense on handhelds.

Vita sells poorly while the 3DS still sells pretty well. There is room for a 3DS and mobiles.
To some extent yes, but it doesn't look like the 3DS matches quite the vast sales the DS itself was able to deliver.

It may not be the best source but VGchartz shows that handheld sales are roughly 70% 3DS / 30% Vita this year. The Vita does terrible in the US but it seems that in other regions it's starting to pick up some support although I still haven't heard of any 'must plays' on it.

You talking total sales of the DS? The 3DS did start off poorly because Nintendo didn't think games were needed unlike the DS that was full of games.

Yeah, total sales. And that's right, I recall the 3DS release coming and going without any truly must buys being on that platform as I was interested in perhaps giving handhelds another go. The situation's of course changed by now but I think Nintendo is feeling the effect of having a poor start with both of their current gen consoles.

Necro thread bump,

I am really disappointed in how the Vita was not successful. It is a great piece of hardware, as was the PSP. SOny seems to just miss the mark, and had they had the Vita a bit cheaper and got more devs on the wagon it could have worked out much better. I may still not have out done the 3DS in terms of sales but it really didn't need to in order to be a great handheld

Sony killed their own handheld, overpriced bad memory cards, no 1st party video games and overall little support.

I think Nintendo has always kind of been top dog when it comes to handhelds and I think that Nintendo will always be top dog in the handheld world. Nintendo was the first one to create a handheld and they've been in the business a lot longer. I think Sony would have to completely wow everyone to be able to draw people away from the handhelds that Nintendo makes.

I think Sony has abandon the handheld market at this point, now Nintendo needs to show that they can dominate the mobile market.

I think so too. That is probably why Microsoft hasn't gotten into the handheld world. They are probably seeing how Sony hasn't been able to compete with Nintendo in that area and they've not even bothered. I would like to see Nintendo to keep things going with the handhelds.

I just hope Nintendo doesn't abandon the handhelds for mobile completely.
