Hello,

Have you admins ever thought of using a better software like mybb? Just sharing those PHP Software brings more activity to forums. ;)

Better is subjective...

Offhand, DS is not overly fond of MyBB. (He's seen a few too many issues from a friend's site.) If memory serves DS also liked the way Xenforo looked better. (Plus, I'll be honest, I'm not fond of MyBB 1.8's alert system layout. I don't overly like the modal thing. Just a simple drop down menu please.)

Additionally changing software is a pretty big pain in the backend. (Converting databases is time consuming for larger sites. And I don't even think there is a way to easily convert off Xenforo. At least not without spending a lot of money anyway...)

We only just moved to Xenforo not too long ago, and paid out a fair wack of money in the process. The best software is subjective but it was the best overall option for the service we wanted to provide at the time and I think it remains that way. Also, what are you basing it bringing in more members on? Xenforo has very good SEO built in. It is written in PHP also so it wouldn't make a different in terms of that.

Yeah I'm not even going to touch Mybb, the software has no support and like VZ said, a friend of mine is ripping her hair out over her forum being mybb and has a lot more coding knowledge than I do.

It's not even so much MyBB that's the issue, it's a jQuery problem that's causing interference between various plugins. I sorted out an issue like this before... but I can't remember what changes I made to get it working.

From the community - pretty good. Installing plugins is a horrible experience though, and it doesn't seem like the official developers put out frequent enough updates. I still think Xenforo is superior.

Sounds like anything paid would be. (also wasn't asking as if I wanted to move, I won't move till xenforo was worth all the $$$$ in moving)

Most of my members hate XenForo... My co-owner tested a XenForo ACP once on another forum and said that it was confusing and kind of ugly... :p
Everything is confusing if you're not used to it. Like PhotoShop, when I started it, it was confusing as heck.

The xenForo ACP's icons are kind of ugly, I'm not going to lie, but the person who created those icons isn't really a pro at graphic design like the person who created the xenForo smilies. The original xF smilies were ugly too but they've been later replaced with smilies from the same graphic designer I mentioned.

Hate is an exaggeration. They probably found it hard to adapt to, but it does all the things you would want from a software for forums so to hate it seems silly.
