I remember the days when people had to use a CD to start their PC into Linux, and it took hours or days to download a Linux Installer file with a dial-up connection. I think using a CD/DVD disc to start into Linux is not as popular these days because of affordable USB Flash Drives, and SD cards which can be used to try out Linux without installing it if you don't want to.
