For me they are. If someone has a low quality thumbnail edit, or none at all, I find myself far less likely to watch the video - especially if it is on a lower amount of views. I find the need for a thumbnail of good quality to be very helpful in encouraging me to watch the video - especially in gaming related content. What are your opinions?

Are you saying I would click or put a thumbnail in my videos depicting something sexy? How outrageous Martin, I would never sink to such lows! Nope, never! :smirk:

Yeah, people do watch and look at every damn thing. Doesn't help some of us like myself. So since on this topic and I do make videos myself then you guys please review my thumbnails here https://www.youtube.com/user/empire2445/videos

So what you think from that channel of mine?

I like the way your thumbnails look, they look a lot more professional than the ones I normally see for gaming with the weird rainbow square.

Thanks, wish I had more subs and reviews from people around the world. Since Youtube added new policy of ad-friendly things have become harder and messed up more

The Ad-Friendly policy has been around for quite a while, if you read the TOS. But regardless, it doesn't really effect subs or views, just your monetization. It takes a hell of a long time and many factors to get the youtube views etc.. just keep producing quality content an they will come eventually.

As for the thumbnails, I've tried different types myself. I've used regular ones for Series, Content Specific ones for Gaming, and just random ones for other stuff. I don't really advertise anymore and the views still trickle in.

Believe me or not that creating thumbnails is easy and fun which doesn't take long. He's how I do it.

I pick an good image that I snapshot when gaming, so when in game I take around five or more.
Then add it and add the episode number of which is already a saved file for all thumbnails and tight it up.

If you are good with Photoshop then you won't have problem

Right, it's extremely easy to do, takes no time and shows potential viewers that the video isn't just some random upload.
I normally edit my videos, and then pick a snapshot out of the video edits and then throw it in photoshop to add some spice to it.

Also I save all copy's of my videos and thumbnails just in case that I need to use them again.

Unless you've got an existing fanbase (ideally a very large one), yes they are. First impressions count, and this goes double for videos on YouTube.

There's plenty of youtubers with multi-million follower counts that don't use thumbnails.

Those that select a video based on the quality of the thumbnail are definitely in the minority.

Catchy tiles are what drive clicks to your videos.

I agree with this. Eye catching thumbnails that aren't obviously click bait are what I usually go for. If it's a youtuber I already watch, I don't care as much.

'Catchy Titles' are 99% of the time Click-bait. So I don't ever go by titles anymore, unless I read something that seems like it's trying TOO hard to get my attention... then I just simply ignore it because I know for a fact it's trash.

You are the minority, it's not really about what you would do specifically, it's what the general user would do.

Internet users have learned to ignore images , it's why google adsense/adwords became so popular.

I'm also the minority for the simple fact that I am not a teenager or a child who browses youtube for the stupid crap that everyone finds enjoyable nowadays. I'm also not naive and easily tricked into the lies and clickbait, whether it be on Youtube, or a News site, etc.. When you are fed enough crap over years, you finally start to be more selective. I know I don't do much damage, but I for one will not 'pay' the bills for the junk by giving them a view.
