Finally got my PS4 pro hooked up and running! Took roughly an hour to do from cleaning up my room a bit in the area (wires, move out the PS3/Wii U) to swamping in the 2 TB to setting up the PS4 itself from user settings and getting connected to the wifi and get PS+ on it. For now I'll be using it on a simple 1080p tv but I made sure to get a 2.0 HDMI cord for down the line should I do upgrade to HDR/4k.

So first impressions, I love it  I like its look but all those grooves in the PS4 pro look to be a dust issue down the line. The controller feels good in my hands, can't wait to get going on a FPS with it. I don't however like the buttons for power and eject on the main system itself, kind of small and easily missable. I also don't like how they have the usb wedged into the groves in the front, I had to use the one in the back to plug in my usb containing the PS4 update data as it didn't fit in the front.

I'm pretty sure I got most settings correct like all the privacy settings and setting up 2 step authentication (since I have been hacked once before), but I'm wondering if there are any settings that anyone here recommends? I'm also like to know how to clean up the home menu, maybe get rid of some of those extra app boxes like the Vue which I'll never use.

Since I'm waiting for the boost mode patch to come out, I've decided to start with Second Son for a game since that was made for Pro (via a large patch!)

Also I'm going to clean out my friends list for anyone who hasn't logged in a long time. So let me know if I accidentally delete you from my PS4 list.

I'm also curious, should I ever shut my PS4 off completely or leave it in rest mode all the time? I plan on rest mode during the day and shut off during the night, times I game most and won't ever game.

You can add apps and games to folders by clicking the options button and pressing add to folder. I have folders for PlayStation apps, multiplayer games and then games I'm currently playing.

The USB thing can be an issue, as can dust build up. They're probably the two things I don't like about the design of the console.

People leave there's in rest mode all the time. Should you have PS+ and the options selected its good as it will do all the updates and patches in the background. But I tend to turn mine off.

That sounds pretty cool. I think it's best to shut it down completely at least every now and then. Leaving it in rest mode can still add to your electrical bill, if I'm not mistaken...

I do rest mode when I know I'll use it again soon or if I'm at a point in the game I can't save. What games did you get with it?

Congrats on getting a PS4 Pro.

I think it is best to turn off the console entirely since leaving the PS4 in rest mode may wear out the Power supply over time because it is always on, and using more power than shutting down the power. You also save some electricity by shutting down your console.

There are older news reports of people having problems after using Rest Mode according to PS4 Problems Persist as Rest Mode Crashes Some Systems

So I could make a useless folder and place everything I don't want in there?

indeed it can, but my parents bill actually :p

Congrats on getting it all set up. Have fun playing!

thanks, but I wasn't able to play at all today :squint:

I didn't get any games with it, but I've had plenty of games on hand from Christmas and cheap ebay purchases. See my gaming list for whats to come.

that reminds me of PC's sleep mode that can cause issues.

I tend to only use rest mode if I know I'm going to be playing later. (Like if I have to take a break to get something to eat or answer an important phone call or whatever.) But if I know it might be more than a few hours, like a day or two, before I can play again then I just shut it right off.

The junk folder is a good idea but unfortunately there are a few apps that you can't yet throw in there. (I hate the TV app they shove at you that lists stuff like hulu and whatnot. But for whatever reason you can't throw that in a folder.)

As for games, are you planning on playing Destiny (or Destiny 2) or Borderlands: Handsome Collection on PS4? (Also, Second Son is a pretty good game.)

Did you know you could add PS4 games to your collection from PS+ before you got it? If you go on the PS Store website, you can add every available PS+ game to your collection, regardless of owning the system. I had a ton of PS4 games before I got the system that way.

Nice to know and I'm done with Destiny. When Destiny 2 comes out I might get into that but I'm done with the first game.

You mean just clicking on a PS+ game whenever its available?

Pretty much, that's what I do since you can't delete the stuff.

that sucks. Btw do you use the share function at all? I'm just curious how long that lasts, as I captured myself glitching out of Second Son game and I should have captured it or something.

You know how if you access the PS Store from your PS3, the only PS+ free games you can add to your account are the ones specifically for the PS3? If you use Sony's website, you can see all the PS+ monthly games for each system and add them to your account. Doesn't matter now since you have the PS4, but if you just want to get all the games at once instead of having to boot up your PS3 and PS4 individually, you can just get them all from the site.

oh you're just saying mange them from like a pc or phone instead of booting up the console?

Yup! Knock them all out at once, otherwise you gotta boot up each system individually since the store is fragmented to only show you what's available for the console you are using.

Very rarely. I think it automatically screenshots whenever you earn a trophy, which is kind of cool. That tends to be my most used feature of it. I think based on your permissions it should record the last 15 minutes in a loop automatically, if something cool happens you can hit the share button and it would have recorded the last 15 minutes and then you can save the clip/cut it up so you get the bit you like, etc. 15 mins isn't enough really. I'd prefer the option to have unlimited time if you could force the video to automatically save to a USB or external hard drive or something (I'd use it a lot more then)
