The Verge reports that Microsoft is testing Cortana within Outlook for Android and iOS. It will enable users to listen to and respond to emails using their voice. This is going to be very useful for listening to emails while driving as Microsoft is said to be testing Cortana integration within Outlook that will work over Bluetooth and read out email messages aloud.

Cortana May Soon Arrive In Outlook For iOS And Android | Ubergizmo

I feel Cortana may bot be a hugely popular feature in Outlook because some people don't like to learn new apps, or feel reading a few lines of text and typing a few words in an e-mail reply more convenient, and faster than using Cortana to use voice commands.

I think iOS and Android already have text to speech, and speech to text keyboard features built-into the Operating system for people who are blind or partially blind.

I hope there is a way to uninstall Cortana on Outlook since a lot of older phones with 8GB or less storage will have even less free storage space after installing Outlook because adding Cortana most likely increases the total file size of the Outlook app.

I guest, more people will use the mobile web browser version of Outlook to check e-mail if they don't want Cortana to be installed on their phone.

God I hate her voice, specially when I have to setup a new W10 laptop and she just yells out.

It is too bad that Microsoft does not make a fast way to mute Cortana's voice for 1 hour while users setup Windows 10. I think Windows XP, 7 and 8.1 not having Cortana is one of the good things about older versions of Windows.

I prefer the robotic text to speech voice which is in older software which support voice to speech, and some YouTube videos where the video uses a voice to text program with a robotic voice instead of their own voice.

you can easily mute her, but sometimes those laptop speakers are set rather loud for some reason.

Would plugging in a pair of head phones, turned-off desktop PC speakers mute the laptop speakers, or 3.5 mm line-in audio cable into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port mute most laptop speakers?

Well I am not at all looking forward to it as I don't use it at all.
I know folks who are really excited about it....
I don't get why people wouldn't mind giving their personal info to a virtual client... But that's just me being paranoid

Hopefully, Virtual voice clients like Cortana are not added to the desktop PC version of Outlook and other e-mail software.

I'm worried about other people's virtual clients' microphone recording my voice without my permission. I never use personal assistants as well for privacy reasons, and I feel they waste a lot of electricity and battery power on my PC, and mobile devices.

I only seen online electronic reviewers on tech review websites use voice assistants like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa. I have not met any people who are very excited to use voice assistant programs. These voice assistants can add a lot of unwanted noise to a quiet room like a Library or classroom where being quiet is usually important.

not sure if that would work since the laptop would only still be setting up.

I think it may work on older style laptops where plugging in a pair of headphones or other 3.5mm cable make the audio signal go to the headphone port.

I think most smartphones/tablets with built-in speakers automatically turn off the speaker on the device when a pair of headphones are plugged in, and the headphones play the audio until the headphones are unplugged.

You bet but people around me like cortana.
They find her amusing and they use her without a care in the world.
I don't like them for various reasons similar to yours.

It would be disturbing if there is a Microsoft worker, hacker, or spy who is secretly listening to Cortana when the app is opened, and can listen to other people who are sitting next to the person who is using Cortana.

It is disappointing a lot of things like software, newer tv, and cars come with voice assistants clients even if there maybe privacy concerns from users.

Yeah and these days, I wouldn't even be surprised if that's what is exactly happening.
Everyone would love to snoop in others business these days.

I read articles that some police officers have face scanner cameras for finding criminals, and spy equipment like cameras and microphones. I think these voice assistants maybe used by law enforcement to arrest people who they suspect of breaking the law.

There is always a chance that you download a fake or modified Outlook Cortana app, and the voice and text data is sent to both Microsoft Outlook and a scammer, spammer, or stalker who steals your data to do scary tasks with your data.

Oh my God... People say I am paranoid enough but these things would kill whatever the trust you have in humanity, for anyone, for sure

I agree, having a lot of cameras, microphones, and other equipment being used by the government and companies can make people not trust humanity. Plus, you never know how powerful the cameras and microphones are, so the camera and microphone maybe recording people from very far away.

The recordings recorded by the government can also be misused where a staff member secretly recorded an embarrassing video or audio recording of a victim with a voice assistant app, and shared the secret recordings on the internet, or random people in their town to make fun of the victim.

Damn ...
those people should be hanged for doing that.
What happened to ethical and moral values?
Stupid people

Sadly, some bad people end up working for the government, so they are less likely to punish other bad people who are perverts, and may of copied people's private photos, videos, and text for their own perverted reasons.

I feel using Outlook is already scary for sending and receiving home photos, video, and information which you don't want to be posted since a lot of people don't want to share a picture or video of their face, home, and family or personal messages between their friends, and relatives becoming publicly readable to a stranger who maybe a pervert or another scary person.

According to Edward Snowden, Microsoft Outlook.com has a backdoor to let the government watch any Outlook users according to Snowden leak: Microsoft added Outlook.com backdoor for Feds

"Microsoft and the FBI created a workaround that gives the NSA access to encrypted chats on Outlook.com. The system went live in December last year – two months before Outlook.com's commercial launch."

I feel that using outlook is a bit scary myself, as it's just not safe and for that reason I don't like whatsapp too. The terms and conditions are just fishy enough to make you run the other direction.
That's the reason why i never upload my photos in facebook.

I agree Whatsapp does seem somewhat less trustworthy, but I feel some cell phone service providers are not trustworthy and may share my texts, and voice calls with the government or sell my data for money.
