Now I understand why there are more and more shops popping up these days where you can walk in, and re-fill your already used up ink cartridges at a far lower cost. ww

The ink and cartridges are cheap, but paying for advertising ink and printers can be very expensive. I think some of the bigger printer and ink companies may spend a lot of their money in their savings account on TV and magazine advertisements, and sponsoring sports and community events like concerts and festivals to promote their printer and ink brands to less tech savvy people who are more likely to buy from printers and ink brands which they see on TV and magazines.

Some printer and ink companies may also pay money to sponsor from popular online celebrities on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, so they can convince more average people to buy their products.

I heard about that some years ago, the printer company received lots of backlash, and had no other choice than to release a firmware update to remove the block.

Oh my god. There are times when our printer had to gone through repair after trying to print some stuff with a filled cartridge. Now we are always using the new cartridges

I wouldn't want to do anymore printing

Go laser printing if you can

I think Laser printing is mostly good for text, but not as good looking for photos. I agree Laser printer can be better unless you need to print photos, and you get your electricity from car batteries like a RV/Recreational Vehicle or trailer home which is not plugged into the local electrical grid. Laser printers use more electricity. Laser printers can release more heat which maybe a problem if you live in a hot place and don't have air conditioning, or your air conditioner uses electricity from a car battery like trailer homes where you need a generator or a car to be turned on to charge the battery with the car's engine spinning.

yeah, the only downside.

We have a customer at work (huge enterprise by the way) who's still using matrix printers for their operation.
That's one way to not use any ink or toner at all. 草

I heard these printers are good for making a carbon copy of the document like receipts where there are two copies printed at once.

scanners would be better for that.

It is simpler and faster for less tech savvy people to use carbon paper to make two paper copies of a document at once by having the dot matrix printer also carbon copy a copy of the paper.

Plus, scanners are less trust worthy in certain situations because the data can be changed with a photo editing program like Photoshop, Word Processor or malware, so a scanned and photocopy version of the document may not be good for using in a court case, or contract. A hardware problem or limitation with the scanner or scanner software may make certain letters like l look like the number 1 or the | symbol, so using a scanned copy of a document in a court case may cause you to lose the case.

But, a dot matrix carbon copy print two copies of the same document which is exactly the same when read. The carbon copy may look slightly different because carbon and ink have different colors and clearness quality.

A police department investigator is most likely knowledgeable enough to investigate the ink, carbon, carbon paper, and paper to see if they all came from the same printer or different printers to help collect evidence which involve documents and carbon copy of documents printed on a dot matrix printer.
