Or at least make good use of a dusting Gamecube.

I don't see what's so special about using a GameCube controller in Smash. I get it, people were used to it in Melee and Brawl because the Wii had GC support, but if Smash 4 wasn't GC controller compatible, why would Smash 5?

I'm more upset that I won't be able to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. That's what I've been using since Brawl, but like everyone else I'll just have to adapt.

The GC controller was commonly seen as the best controller Nintendo ever made.
I agree too, but I also think it's time to move on at some point.

The GC had such controller because that used to be Nintendo's style at the time.
Then after the introduction of the DS Lite, the style started to change from "cool and unique" (from N64 to DS) to "classy and harmonised" (from DS Lite and Wii to Wii U and New 3DS LL), then to "cool and harmonised" (from New 2DS LL and Switch onward).

Most of the Wii controllers weren't as nice, the Wii U Pro controller worked really well, and now I think the Switch Pro controller just surpassed the GC and Wii U Pro controllers.

you mean the smash game on the Wii U right? That is GC controller compatible.

Personally, I feel like the N64 controller was the best. Even though the D-pad did nothing and was mostly for show. Though, now I feel like the Joycons in the controller it came with is the best feeling.

Was it? I don't remember ever seeing anything about GameCube controllers for the Wii U. How do you plug it in? Or was it wireless?

This thing: https://www.amazon.co.jp/任天堂-WUP-A-...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7KKBY66RZCE474WGV58N

Nintendo released this for Wii U only for use with Smash Brothers for Wii U.
They released a special Gamecube controller too (usable on a Gamecube too): https://www.amazon.co.jp/任天堂-DOL-A-...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7KKBY66RZCE474WGV58N

I liked the N64 controller too, until I played Mario Party with it. (;^ω^)
Well, Mario Party 1 was the most flawed. I remember getting giant blisters in the middle of my hand that lasted a week or so. I kept trying to play Mario Party, but it made control stick spinning impossible to win.

It's still sad nonetheless, I really miss using my N64 controller in Super Mario 64.
Not that Gamecube, Wii U Pro, or Switch Pro controllers are bad, it just doesn't feel all that authentic any more.

Mario Party One was the reason many N64 controllers broke. That analogue. Hahaha.
I think they were even sued and removed that kind of games for the next games in the console.

Anyway, it is a pretty interesting find that compatibility and even more the mod.
