Mario's Nightmare Quest

Damn!

That's rough.

They're paranoid after the recent Nintendo fan game shut downs apparently.

As for this one? It's... on hiatus for now. Got to get other stuff on track first, though I do expect a new version will be released at some point or another.

Very colorful. I'm surprised I didn't see this one yet? lol

Well, it's a very new change, so there's that.

Another new change is that I'm actually working on custom ASM now, so the blocks, level ASM and eventually some sprites will be completely unique to this game.

Oh hey, this thing isn't dead:

It's also being signficantly redesigned right now, to better follow game design best practices.

It's meant to be. Thought it'd be funny to make the player jump out of their seat a bit in level 1.

Still, if you think that's creepy, wait till you see what's in the store for the horror themed world...

Well, the porting process is still ongoing, though it's slow because of Gaming Reinvented's redesign and some content I need to post there.

New world maps too:

Thanks! It's from a world map graphics pack I found on the Super Mario Bros X forums, and I knew I had to use it the minute I saw it.

Either way, all world map graphics in this game are now going to be in that style, as seen above. Well except for the Hyrule and final world maps, but those are cool in their own ways.

Quick update:

Now every world has unique enemy graphics fitting for that world. So the horror world has horror themed enemies, the forest world has forest creatures, the desert world has desert monsters, etc.

They don't act differently to the original ones, but they provide a nice bit of local flavour when used alongside fully custom sprites unique to different levels and worlds.

Hopefully that day is within my lifetime. This project has been taking a while, and I still need to carefully plan out my improvements/updates to basically the design of every level in the game.

Given the blog update is nearly finished, I've done a bit more work on this project. Level design really, since I decided I didn't need to rip every tileset and background in advance.

Have now redesigned levels 1-4, and mostly done 6.
