Obviously, this will be different for everyone because of different tastes and opinions but what was the best game that was on the PlayStation 2?

For me, it has to be this badass game. The first ever Grand Theft Auto title that I played and the one that got me addicted to all the Grand Theft Auto games.

I think I was around 5 or 6 when I played this game for the first time. I didn't have a PS2 back then but one of my cousins had one. I made sure I was at my cousin's every week to play this game. I didn't even do anything bad on it, I don't think I was even aware of what Grand Theft Auto actually was in terms of the missions and stuff. For me, it was the driving that I enjoyed. To have a game that you could literally do whatever you wanted and to drive anywhere you wanted was just amazing. And that's why GTA Vice City was the best title for me on the PS2.

The best title? Man that is an impossible question to answer, PS2 had such a strong and large gaming library it isn't even funny.

Hrmmm, I want to say..... the .hack series. It wasn't the best gameplay wise, but I loved its story to death and was the first one in the story on the game release day.

I'll choose Yakuza series , I have played this game on my friend's PS2 years ago. Now I'm trying to get the remastered version of Yazuka on PS4.

I agree with you Kingcool52, I also like the Badass Game a lot and used to play it a lot with my cousins. Thanks for refreshing my thoughts about it again.

The reason I got the PS2 was God of War so for me GoW II and RE4 are the best games on the PS2.

There were soooo many. PS1 and PS2 had the monopoly when it comes to the best 3rd party support, IMO.

That said, the Suikoden series will always have a place in my heart.

Mostly because Nintendo didn't get with the times, leaving Sony the sole ruler of the market at the time. Then Xbox stepped in and Nintendo started playing catch up.

This perfectly sums up what I have in mind, too. I was on PS1 and 2, then when Xbox 360 came along, I jumped on to it. Microsoft's popularity waned with the Xbox One (I still want to have one!) so I went with PS4.

Interesting up and downs. What I will never deny is that when it comes to retro (NES, SNES, Gameboy, GB Advance), Nintendo is always king.

And going back to the PS2 topic, I am so glad I still have my very own PS2 from back in the day. The exterior is still very smooth. I had it repaired since the power blew up a few years ago, and the technician was kind enough to make it auto voltage (since I am from Southeast Asia and my PS2 is from the US, I have to use a transformer to power it up --- no need for that now!)

long live the PS2.

Never had PS2, shit I must have been missed a big portion of 'life'. > <
Maybe it's just me, but the PS2 is still so "playable" today. I mean if you go back to SNES or maybe even the PS1, there are some archaic game designs that won't be saved by nostalgia, like not being able to save anywhere or playing with tanky controls. The PS2 is different; while it retains a lot of the old game designs from the past, it's a borderline into the new territory we know of with PS3, Xbox 360, and even the PS4. So much of the design we see today appeared first on the PS2.

Prime example of this would be the battle and targeting system of FF12, which became the template for FFXIV, the MMO game.

Or maybe I'm just too biased with the PS2 since it's one of my most favorite consoles ever, haha.
