PS4 launched in Nov 2013 at $399. 5 years Later it is still retailing at $299. It seems crazy to me that Sony has still not slashed its price but PS4 BF sales last year at 199 showed how massive that price point is. Now I know it is selling phenomenally well but surely they will have to permanently slash prices at some point or will component prices prevent it from ever happening?

Did PS3 ever go to 199? How low do you think the PS4 price can go before it is discontinued?

It will drop in price once the PS5 announcement gets close.

I think eventually a smaller/slim version of the PS4 will be released for $199 when Sony found a way to use a cheaper smaller case, smaller cheaper circuitboard, smaller cheaper microchips, cheaper cooling fans and heatsinks, cheaper top loading blu-ray disc drive like the Playstation 1 and Gamecube and not including as many USB ports, smaller hard drive or less expensive storage drives like the $199 PS3 super slim which came with a cheaper 12 GB built-in flash memory chip for storage.

We're kind of past the age of a slim PS4, they kind of replaced it this time with a Pro version.

I think the PS4 Pro may have a smaller cheaper version if the PS4 Pro is still popular for many more years in the future, and electronics like game consoles and gaming PCs become slimmer in size because of improvements in technology sort of like how the Nintendo Switch is faster than the Wii and Wii U.

Hrmm, possible.

I feel there maybe a PS4 Pro mini in 20 to 30+ years like how there is now a Playstation 1 Mini, NES Mini, and SNES mini after many years of the original console release for the bigger versions of the PSX, Nes mini, and Snes mini.

People in the future may still want to play older PS4 games, but don't want to emulate them on a PC, or want a mini console which look like the PS4 Pro mini rather than re-buying all the games on a newer Sony console.

There is going to be a time where these minis stop, it might be possible for them to do up to a PS2, gamecube and xbox mini, but anything after that will be too costly to pull off.

I think if there are enough fans for the PS4, Sony may make a mini PS4 in the future. Hopefully, we all make more money where we can afford to spend more money on a PS4 mini, and other nice stuff.

Sony can make fewer mini consoles for the people who can afford a more expensive mini PS4. I feel releasing mini consoles are a good way to advertise console brands rather than spending millions of dollars on TV and internet ads. Nintendo got more blog posts about the Nes mini, and Snes mini which may of help people know about the Nintendo brand name.

The PS4 uses an older AMD CPU and video chip model. The price of the PS4's AMD chip may cost a few dollars in 20 years, or a cheaper PC or mobile CPU chip from another brand can emulate the PS4's CPU in the future if the PS4 mini is ever released.

It'll start dropping the price whenever the release the PS5, whenever that takes place. Until then, I don't know if they will or not.

I feel it will get more cheaper as christmas is approaching, but not near 199 I guess.

In some countries like the US, and UK where the value of money is worth more, the price of a PS4 may drop to 199 depending on how much the Japanese Yen is worth compared to other currencies like the US dollar.

If the PS4 and its parts like circuitboard is mostly built by high speed robots which can assemble hundreds of PS4 per day, and the materials like plastic, metals, etc drop in price, the price of a PS4 maybe cheaper.

I also feel if not as many gamers want a PS4 in the future, Sony will sell the PS4 for a lower price by making a cheaper version, or discontinuing the PS4 if not enough people still want to buy one in the future.

Sony can also sell the PS4 at a loss, and hope people buy a lot of games, DLC, movies, music, and PSN subscriptions for their console.

they have been selling PS4 at a loss.

they have been selling PS4 at a loss.

Sony can sell the PS4 at more of a lost to get more buyers, and earn the money back by selling games, DLC, PSN, and other services where Sony makes more profit.

Most people who buy the PS4 may buy at least 1 new $60 games for the PS4, and subscribe to PSN, buy a few DLC etc on PSN, Sony can make more money back by selling more new games to new PS4 owners.

I think Sony may lose a lot of money from unsold disc games, extra PS4 controllers, and other PS4 accessories. Old unsold games are sometimes sold for $40 after many years of its release date. Fewer people will buy older unsold games for $60 because people can buy a used version of the game for a cheaper price on eBay and Gamestop.

Maybe when PS5 is revealed :p

I agree the PS4 would be cheaper when the PS5 pro, or another version of the PS4 Pro is released like the PS4 Pro 2 with a faster CPU and video chip, and faster storage drive like a 1 TB SSD.

I feel Sony may reduce the price of the PS4 if Microsoft releases a cheaper version of the Xbox One which cost $199 or less because it has fewer features like the Xbox 360 Arcade/core which came with standard video quality composite/RCA video cable, and 512MB of storage instead of 20GB drive like the Xbox 360 Premium version. But, you can buy the hard drive separately if you need more space for games and DLC for your Xbox 360 core console.
