Maybe or maybe not (it really has to) related to Tumblr's app being removed from all services due to child porn being found on the blog service, Tumblr has announced it is banning all adult material starting December 17th 2018.

I don't see why people are freaking out about this. It's not even an adult site and people will find another place to put their smut. Maybe it's because I don't care to look at such things and I just can't put myself in their shoes. Besides, isn't most of tumblr just SJWs who are against that stuff?

I think tumblr is using the new anti adult stuff to get all the SJWs and LGTB stuff off.

I think banning adult content is being done, so Tumblr can sell more online ad links and banner ads to companies like childrens toy companies who usually don't advertise on sites with adult content.

Pretty much this, not to say that the blog site is being used by those who under 18 as well.

Tumblr is used by teens, but it is not as popular as Instagram. I think Tumblr also wants to attract more mainstream celebrities, and companies to post on Tumblr, and some celebrities and companies may less likely to post on a site where people can find adult content, or accidentally find it by typing in the wrong link address to a Tumblr blog.

I bet, Adult content is also using a lot of bandwidth, storage space on Tumblr's database, and web servers, so Tumblr wants to ban them since they are using too much server storage space.

When I heard that Yahoo had acquired Tumblr I kinda figured they would get rid of mature content. Even though they said they wouldn't it was writing on the wall. (No longer an "if it'll happen" but a "when will it happen". To that end I'm surprised it actually took this long. Tumblr was purchased in 2013 and they're just doing this now in 2018...) No ad-based revenue company is going to allow mature content when advertisers don't want their products associated with mature content.

Tumblr is used by sjw sorts (which I'm kinda surprised they aren't railing against this as some kind of limitation on their expression of gender or something). But that said they are a relatively small number (who just happen to be extremely vocal so it seems like there are a lot more of them than there really are). Overall they are only a tiny amount of the total people who use Tumblr. There are lots who use it for other things... Things like:
- roleplay (lots of people make character accounts and then roleplay with them),
- celebrity worship (loads of pages dedicated to celebrities),
- photography (seen lots of images of sunsets and other nature scenes)
- selfies
- and, of course, adult content of all varieties.

Tumblr is now owned by Verizon which bought Yahoo for $4.5 billions dollars. Verizon also has Adult TV channels, and channels which show Adult content at night. I think Verizon does not want people viewing free adult content on Tumblr, and rather adult content viewers legally for it by subscribing to Adult Entertainment channels and HBO which shows "Games of Thrones" which has adult themes on Verizon Cable TV service
