Or at least, the Twitter and Facebook type?

Because personally, I do. Why? Because it feels like the modern internet is now basically an extended high school popularity contest, with too many people shouting stupid things at one another in some attempt to get z-list celebrity esque 'fame'.

Feels like things were a bit more... mature before them. Like people cared for more reasoned arguments and differing points of view.

But what do you think?

Yeah. Social media has basically killed the internet in a lot of ways. Though, it also killed true relationship between people. I mean most people talk through social media more than see each other in real life. I know some people might be busy, but still.

Dude I was just considering downloading Winamp today, which I guess means I am getting old and clingy to times gone by. Anyway, I miss when MSN was king. IM texting was as far as you needed for insta communication. For the rest you had forums, and forums were your second homes, with a close community you cared about. If a forum was down people would make refugees and tried their darn best to keep together. Now it is just facebook groups with no real interaction.

Facebook started all right I think,m but they have been stripping down options and changing things a bit too much. It is ridiculous that anyone can upload an image and tag you and you are at the mercy of the uploader to be untagged, when you could discreetly doing it yourself. The setting page have merged some options to the point where I rather just turn off altogether some of them.

Now it is all about marketing.
"Hey your friends liked something from this page/brand, you should like us too!"

"Hey mate, nice you have a page but your post won't reach everybody that has subscribed... of course if you pay us that changes".

I guess it had to do because the netz were special back then. You were a no-life geek if you talked too much about it instead of living in the "real world". 1337spk and memes were kind of inside jokes. people didn't feel as entitled and were more encouraging with other people's creations being flash animations or youtube videos. Corporations were for the most wary of the Internet and basically away, so it was really a more interpersonal feeling to the simple websites and stuff.

I miss it when Facebook required a .edu email! Now you got all sorts of old folks sharing their scary political opinions online.

Yeah, I know how you feel there. Hate how the modern internet is nothing but the same boring things as offline, since barriers to entry are now so low.

For me, social media doesn't make much difference.
Even though I have accounts n facebook and twitter, I don't use them at all.
So, I don't really miss anything.

I miss the days when more people write on blogs and forums more where more people try to post interesting and useful post or a comments and replies on a post.

I feel more people on social networks these days mainly post on social networks without caring as much if a post is interesting, and useful to readers, and post offensive posts and replies to get attention.

I find social media useful for identifying trends :p

I agree, Social networks are useful for finding trends. It is strange that big companies like Microsoft ignore social media like the many users not liking Windows 10 automatic update and Xbox One Kinect.
