Ouya, the Kickstarter success story that launched in 2013 and raised over $8.5 million, will have its game store shut down on June 25, 2019, officially ending the run of the Android game console.

As reported by Eurogamer, Razer, who owns Ouya, will also be shutting down both the Forge TV and MadCatz Mojo's stores at the same time.

Razer published a FAQ that answers such questions as "Will I still be able to play games on OUYA?"

"You will be able to play games via the OUYA platform until June 25, 2019," The FAQ reads. "Once it has been shut down, access to the Discover section will no longer be available. Games downloaded that appear in Play, may still function if they do not require a purchase validation upon launch. Contact the game developer for confirmation."

Accounts will also be deactivated at that time, and OUYA owners will "no longer be able to access your account, games on the server, previously purchased titles, or be able to purchase new ones." Existing funds can not be redeemed or used elsewhere, so Razer recommends users "utilize your account funds prior to the shutdown."

Following its successful Kickstarter and fulfilling the initial backer shipments, Ouya's sales never reached a sustainable level. In 2015, Razer acquired Ouya's employees and content library and stopped production on the failed hardware.

This is unfortunate for Ouya fans. I felt Ouya made mini consoles more popular where Amazon, Apple, and Google all released TV box devices like Apple TV, Android TV, and Fire TV which can play games with a controller.

Hopefully, most Ouya game makers will publish their games on Steam, Amazon App store and Google Play.

I know you posted a lot of its games, a shame it will all vanish.

I thought a lot of Ouya games had fun gameplay, nice retro graphics, and sound. It is a shame that the online Ouya game store would be shutting down.

Hopefully, there would be more websites and game stores for smaller game makers to promote and sell their self-made games like how some Linux games promote their games on Linux games sites, Steam for Linux, and Linux-based Software stores.

I had plan on getting one myself one of these days, since the games are going with it look like I will have to look elsewhere.

I may get a used Ouya if I see a used Ouya for $30 or less on eBay, or a used electronics store, flea market or pawn shop.

I think users can use other unofficial App and game stores like the Amazon App store to download and install games. It is also possible to sideload games with the APK game installer files. I see some people use the Ouya as an emulator console, so the Ouya can be good for playing older emulators.
