Handhelds?

I'm wondering if what he meant was supposed to be like the 3DS. Something less powerful. Something is a choice that doesn't normally stream games on a TV and takes up a significantly less amount of space. Something that fits in your pocket like a phone, but is meant solely as a media player proxy.
I just picked up a ROG Ally last week for a business trip to new york. It is absolutely incredible, I love it. Originally planned to return it after the trip but I might just take the hit to the bank for it lol.
Under full load with power plugged in, I’ll say it does get pretty warm. Haven’t used any monitoring apps to see actual temps, but the exhaust placement is well thought out. Unless you put your hand directly over the top exhaust the heat won’t bother you at all. Internal temps are limited specifically to the TDP of the unit, so unless you try overclocking it you won’t damage it.
It is an incredible machine, I was not expecting the performance I would get from this little handheld device at all, games look great and play great on it.
I actually wouldn't mind having any of the major handhelds, the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Switch (granted I'd wait for a Switch 2 at this point), but overall I am currently looking to get a good controller setup for my phone, but having some issues.
I don't find the current handhelds as a great option for me as I mostly enjoy FPS games on the go and those require good internet that my phone's hotspot is pretty not great at providing. I looked into GPD's lineup as their Win Max has a sim card slot, but we mostly have Verizon and for non-phones, their unlimited data plan is fixed at 600 kb/s, and since I don't want to relive loading in an AOL mailed internet era again, it is a hard pass.
Then comes the controller issue where COD Mobile and Xbox Cloud gaming need an Xbox or PS controller, but I much prefer the clip-on ones to use the phone like a handheld.
So here I am, with no handheld and just complaining.

If you’re on the go a lot you can look into mobile hotspots (the actual device) provided by your cell carrier. They tend to work better than your phone for mobile internet. I had one awhile back from t-mobile and it was pretty decent for gaming.
Pair that with a steam deck or ROG ally and you’ve got a pretty great setup for PC gaming on the go.

Can you stream from it? Or at least record while playing?
Yes! You can use the Armoury Crate software built into it, OBS or the AMD driver software to record/stream gameplay.

This used to be my travel setup for everything, but Verizon dropped unlimited data on hotspots, and paying $50+ a month for limited data was not my cup of tea. They do work well for the occasional gaming session on the go.
I am not sure if anyone offer unlimited hotspot now. If they do, it cost extra.

Highlighted by Videocardz, the early MSI Claw benchmarks come courtesy of hardware reviewers on the Chinese site Bilibili. Collated test data across gutsy PC games like Cyberpunk 2077, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Resident Evil suggests that the Claw can’t boost fps beyond that of the ROG Ally, with gaps as wide as 13fps. Here’s a closer look at each figure:
The results above are based on the MSI Claw and ROG Ally running at max TDP. That should mean that the Claw is running at 40W while the Ally is set to 30W, which sort of adds salt into the performance wound. Additional tests also include results for TDP levels all the way down to 15W in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and the Claw actually fares worse with an average of 24fps vs 42fps at 720p high settings.

I had a feeling that the Intel based unit, the Claw was going to end up below some of the others. The ROG Ally is a great rig from what I have read and watched about it.
