The rumours surrounding a potential Horizon and LEGO crossover game have picked up steam today as Insider Gaming reports the title is called LEGO Horizon Adventures, and is essentially "Horizon Forbidden West but LEGO", and features "realistic graphics". In trying to envision what this game might look like, some people have pointed to LEGO Builder's Journey, which places LEGO pieces on a blank but colourful background.

The outlet then claims they've heard that an "advertisement trailer" for the project was recently completed, which could mean it appears in the PlayStation Showcase heavily rumoured to take place this month. The collaboration was hinted at last weekend — when it wasn't entirely clear whether this would be a game or a new LEGO set like the Tallneck one — but now it appears to very much be a new video game, if the suggestions are true.

There's plenty of IPs that deserve the LEGO treatment before this one, that's for sure.

Sony will announce LEGO Horizon Adventures for PlayStation 5 and PC this week during Summer Game Fest, according to a new report.

Dealabs’ reliable leaker Billbil-kun, who this week also reported that Sony has a PC version of The Last of Us 2 up its sleeve, said LEGO Horizon Adventures will see a simultaneous release on PS5 and PC. It’s described as an action adventure game with solo and cross-platform co-op gameplay.

An announcement is reportedly set for June 8 CET, which coincides with the June 7 PT kick-off of Summer Game Fest. A gameplay trailer is expected, but so far there is no word on a release date.

A simultaneous release on PS5 and PC for LEGO Horizon Adventures would follow the same strategy Sony employed for smash hit Helldivers 2 earlier this year, and for the upcoming live service shooter Concord. Sony has insisted it still plans to release its triple-A single-player showcase video games on PlayStation consoles first before coming to PC, but it’s clear the company is leaning more into a multiplatform strategy as the PS5 enters the latter stage of its lifecycle.

It’s also worth noting that it’s likely that LEGO Horizon Adventures on PC will require a PlayStation Network account to work, as is now the case for all PlayStation games that launch on PC. This controversial policy was U-turned for Helldivers 2 but means people in a number of countries in which PSN is unavailable are not able to buy PlayStation games on PC.

Sony is yet to comment on the LEGO Horizon Adventures rumor (IGN has asked for comment), but assuming it’s true we don’t have long to learn more. Insider Gaming had reported that LEGO Horizon Adventures is “essentially Horizon Forbidden West but Lego”, with “realistic graphics.” While a LEGO Horizon video game may sound like an odd choice, the two brands have collaborated before on LEGO sets based on Guerrilla’s post-apocalyptic franchise.

Sony has a quiet year ahead for first-party PlayStation games, and has ruled out sequels in its major franchises such as Spider-Man and God of War until at least April 2025. But it still has a number of key games set to release over the next 12 months, including the aforementioned Concord, the eye-catching Astrobot, and potentially LEGO Horizon Adventures.

In February, Sony announced a significant round of layoffs affecting around 900 staff, or about 8% of its global PlayStation workforce. The layoffs affect a number of PlayStation studios, including Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Firesprite, and, most significantly, PlayStation's London studio. Alongside the layoffs, a number of in-development games were canceled.

If it's a Lego game it seems really impractical for it to be only on PS5 and PC. Anyways, I hope it can function, even though Lego games have some history of glitches, if like the Lego Star Wars format.

So it will be for switch and pc too on day one.

It looks interesting enough. I like it and it's on Switch. It might be neat looking at the Lego reference skins.

Dev interview by VGC:

The game has been in development for about three years, according to James Windeler, a narrative director at Guerrilla who told VGC the studio plays home to “tons of Lego fans”.

“The story is that we prototyped the first machines for Horizon Zero Dawn with Duplo,” he said in an interview following the game’s reveal. “There are fanatics within the studio who have entire rooms of their houses devoted to Lego”.

“Also, there was the desire from devs who had been working on the Horizon games for eight, 10 years and wanted to make something that was a lot more whimsical and fun, and to kind of have fun with the IP.”

Windeler said Lego was “attracted to the world of Horizon because it’s a bright and colourful world”, and because there are “lots of elements within it that translate obviously into Lego, like the machines”.

He also said that while the themes in the main games can be quite dark, “a sense of optimism and hope that runs through them all” appealed to Lego, as did “the inclusivity of our fanbase”.
