Why do you think Ingress had a lot less hype than Pokemon Go despite offering pretty much a similar concept and gameplay quality as the latter?

It lacked a brand name to get it off the ground. Pokemon would sell anything.

Pokémon GO
If I were to choose between the two, I’d go with Pokémon GO.
Why? Because, I enjoy the casual fun of walking around, catching Pokémon, and joining raids with friends. There's a constant stream of events, and it feels more alive and social than Ingress. Plus, the nostalgia of seeing a wild Charizard pop up never gets old.
That said—yeah, also PokéCoins definitely help a lot. While youcan play for free, having coins for things like extra bag space, raid passes, or incubators makes the experience smoother and more enjoyable. I’d probably earn some from gyms but also toss in a few bucks now and then just to keep things moving.
- Pros: Deep strategy, faction-based territory control, sci-fi theme.
- Cons: Steep learning curve, small player base, minimal visuals.
Pokémon GO
- Pros: Huge player base, easy to play, nostalgic collecting, frequent events.
- Cons: Shallow gameplay, some pay-to-win elements.

Pokémon Go is really grindy, and all the raids are too much for a single player, unless you played for years on end. I like how you can transfer Pokémon to Home, and you can find almost every Pokémon, besides legendaries, in the wild. Pokémon Champions would be more fun than Go when it comes out, however.

Simple, Pokemon that's it really. Having a well established franchise with a huge fanbase is going to draw more players to that game. I never really wanted to give Ingress a go because it didn't seem interesting to me, I'm a die hard Pokemon fan so I gravitated towards that. It'd be cool if Bandai did something with Digimon IMO. I'm surprised they never did that.
