Has anyone else been getting huge traffic spikes from Brazil and Vietnam?

I did not realize Nintendo 3DS Central was so popular, but I really have a bad feeling about this...

Google is (as always) completely useless in explaining this rather unsettling phenomenon...

This phenomenon also happened last month too with Vietnam being our "Special Guests" of that month, but it was so bad on May 3rd that it overloaded the host's resources!

So... anyone else experiencing a similar phenomenon like this? Because I have no clue what end result Brazil and Vietnam is trying to achieve by making so many requests to Nintendo 3DS Central! Are they competing to be the #1 countries to visit Nintendo 3DS Central? Because Brazil is 3rd right now! They have made at least 7787 requests today! Or is there something more sinister at play here?

Well, whatever! If they want my praise, then... HERE YOU GO: *Insert Mad Tiger Smiley here*

Happy now?

Attacker locations can be masked easily in a cyber attack so maybe it's that and those countries are just where they're being routed through.

Yikes that sounds like you're getting bombarded by bots! Could they be scraping your forum for AI training? I have a phpBB forum too and lately there's been a good number of AI bots crawling my forum. It's the only one I'm getting a bunch of bots crawling, my other forums powered by other software hasn't been getting as much attention.

Thank GOODNESS my hosting plan offers unlimited bandwidth, otherwise I'd be in trouble! But it's irritating me because they're artificially inflating my view counters! I can't block them through .htaccess rules because there are too many hosts, and not one seems to be the same! This is a bizarre phenomenon that I would more or less appreciate subsiding!

I WON THE WAR!!! I just went ahead and downloaded the ENTIRE LIST OF IP ADDRESS SUBNETS FOR VIETNAM AND BRAZIL (WHICH, MIGHT I ADD, EQUATES UP TO 26471 DIFFERENT SUBNETS!!!! I AIN'T FOOLING AROUND ANYMORE!!!), put them in my .htaccess files and basically told them to

GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!

EVERY SINGLE REQUEST FROM BRAZIL AND VIETNAM WILL BE BLOCKED FROM ACCESSING NINTENDO 3DS CENTRAL!!!!!

I still have no clue of what their end goal was, and why they would go so far to get 2 whole countries blocked from Nintendo 3DS Central... It's a shame that actual legitimate people from Brazil won't be able to access the forums... well, they can always use a proxy or VPN! It's a drastic measure that I had to take, so... Sorry Brazil! Stop sending your AI bots to inflate my statistics, and maybe we can work things out some decade!

Sounds like malicious bots. ask your host to see what user agents they’re using and have them block their user agents + ip ranges.

Another thing that’ll work is utilizing cloudflare on the backend. You can block certain asns and ip’s a lot easier.

I already got them all blocked! The problem is solved!

I would have contacted your hosting, they should have been able to block the traffic.

They actually provided information on blocking traffic from certain countries!
