Translated by automaton media:
Nihon Falcom has announced its financial results for the first three quarters of the fiscal year (October 2025 – June 2026). According to the report (via GameBiz), the developer saw significant year-on-year growth across all metrics, with net revenue up 111.3%, and operating profit up 485.2%.

According to Nihon Falcom, the strong performance was driven by both international and domestic sales of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter across Steam, Switch and PS5. The game's overseas sales appear to be particularly strong, as the company's licensing division (which accounts for sales via overseas publishers) saw revenue grow 121% year-on-year. Nihon Falcom is actively working on development of the sequel, Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter, aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release in September 2026.

As for Kyoto Xanadu – the company's latest and somewhat experimental release – this financial report does not account for its performance as it was released in July. Additionally, there is no release date yet for a global version of the game.

Nihon Falcom's financial forecast for the full fiscal year remains unchanged, with double-digit growth projected across all profit metrics.

Well they want to make the Xanadu series and Ys series bigger. As for Trails Kondo said before they want to make a spectacular finale to Trails and also completing Van's (and Agnes PLOT lol) story in the process in 2031. I just hope it will be happy ending especially with Trails as a game series been running for so long. I'll be very very disappointed if it will end like say Expedition 33, that game's ending was terrible like the entire journey was meaningless in the end imo. Expedition 33 wanted to make a story like FF X but despite FF X's sad ending FF X's journey was not meaningless. Final Fantasy X treats the pilgrimage as a necessary truth-seeking path. The ending hurts, but the growth remains intact unlike Expedition 33. Even then SE decided to make a Happy Ending with FF X sequel. Expedition 33 leans heavily into existential nihilism. It questions whether artificial life has intrinsic value, leaving the journey feeling like a coping mechanism rather than a heroic quest.

I like to think 33 was the first stepping stone to a more chaotic world.

Also, I think Falcom should try the FF X-2 route, make a game based on three female plots that gives them serious gameplay and fun storylines.

I’m about the Rixia plot. The Seeker sisters are QT 3.14’s
lol Rixia's PLOT size grows with every new engine, wonder how big will her PLOT size be in the new engine especially with falcom's 111% revenue growth and 485% profit growth lol

Latest Kondo interview translated by Noisy Pixel:

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo addressed the Trails series' future in an email interview with ASCII ahead of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.

When asked directly about a full remake of Trails in the Sky the 3rd, Kondo said Falcom's official position is that it remains undecided. On a personal level, however, he said he feels that leaving it undone "wouldn't be right." He also revealed that members of the development team were already asking near the end of the 2nd's production if they could begin working on the 3rd.

Kondo added that Falcom has discussed other possibilities for handling Sky the 3rd. One idea involved incorporating it into Sky 2nd Chapter in a form comparable to the Grim Garten in The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon and potentially offering it as DLC. No approach has been selected, and Kondo stressed that the company will decide based on circumstances.

The interview also revealed that Falcom didn't initially plan to move directly from Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter into 2nd Chapter. The development team's enthusiasm led to internal discussions about remaking SC before 1st Chapter was even finished. The positive response to 1st Chapter, combined with Falcom's desire to avoid the lengthy wait between the original PC releases of FC and SC, ultimately led the team to target a release one year later.

Combining FC and SC into a single remake was considered impractical because of their size. He estimated such a project could have required four to five years of development, further delaying Calvard's continuation.

That storyline was another subject addressed during the interview. Kondo said Falcom doesn't want to keep players waiting much longer for news about what follows Trails beyond the Horizon, though he stopped short of making a potential imminent return outright definitive.

Once the Calvard Republic arc concludes, the series is still intended to move into its final stage. Falcom currently has concepts for that portion of the story, but its exact direction hasn't been finalized.
