Read from IGN:

PlayStation is sending out notifications to fans who have the PlayStation app on their phones. The notification tells users that they can trade in their console to Sony and have money sent directly to their bank account. This offer is valued up to $400 for anyone who has a standard PS5 and two controllers. Although trade-in programs, particularly around the holiday season, aren't uncommon for retailers like GameStop, it isn't as normal to see platform holders reaching out directly to customers like this.

It may suggest that Sony is preparing for a shortage of hardware or is interested in pre-owned stock that it can sell at a more affordable price than a brand-new unit.

This is a good deal for owners with an older used PS5 which they bought for $400 or less.

But, if there is a big PS5 shortage, a used PS5 can be worth more than $400 in the near future if many people are willing to pay more than $400 like $500 for a used PS5.

No, it's not. Its a scam. They want to buy the console... LESSER than what it would cost if YOU re-buy the console. If you sell your PS5, it's $400 to THEM. But, if YOU buy the console from THEM... It's $600+ (PS5) or $800+ (PS5 Pro). Many people will do this in desperate times, which is now.

Yeah, $649 (USD) brand-new from Sony's official website.

Yeah I was going to say this isn't a good deal at all lmao. It's almost as bad as Gamestop! People are much better off selling their used consoles on ebay.

A pre-owned PS5 doesn't go for less than $500 on Gamestop's own website. Not only are you losing money on the actual retail price, but the USED price as well. A used digital console is going for $549 right now. How is that a good deal?
