nope. it will never happen. the 3DS could never handle Minecraft, unfortunately. The Xbox 360 can't even handle it fully, which is why Mojang stopped updating the 360 version. they originally wanted to make the 360 and PC versions exactly alike but soon realized the 360 didn't have the memory space. Now they are focusing on the Xbox 1

Never will happen Yoshian. read my reasons. the 3DS is 100% incapable of supporting the game. Hell, it can't even support Terraria which is a dumbed-down Minecraft. You have a better chance of running a PS3 disc in a regular Nintendo than you do of running any form of Minecraft on a 3DS. BESIDES, Mojang has a contract with MicroSoft stating they will only make games for MicroSoft products and PC - an exclusivity act, if you will.

The PSX Spyro games? Certainly. they aren't open-ended and open-world. Open-world games take a LOT of memory and open-ended ones take a lot as well, so a game like Minecraft takes an excessive amount of memory - something the 3DS just does not have, unfortunately.

it would be like a 40 x 40 x 40 limit if they made it. I don't think you quite understand just how limited in memory and processing power the 3DS is compared to what Minecraft needs in order to run - even with dumbed-down textures.
