It was given out with Nintendo Power at the time and I take it retail as well. But it was still an old issue of course.

I would say it’s fairly common, probably the easiest and cheapest NES Dragon Quest title. 2 isn’t too pricey and slightly more rare, and then 3 and 4 will cost you a pretty penny.

I paid $30 for a CIB copy of Dragon Quest 1 pre-covid. So that shows how inexpensive the game was.

I think the price of the games depends where he bought the games. I think some thirft stores, flea market, and pawn shops may sell NES games for a lower price like $10 because they are taking up too much space at the store, or not having enough buyers to buy them on a regular basis.

He may of gotten a few games for free from friends, family members, and strangers who want to see him reach 1000 copies, or want to giveaway their NES games rather than selling games which can be somewhat of a hassle.
