Today is the 15th anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation, one of the most influential consoles in gaming history. So happy birthday, PlayStation.
On December 3, 1994, the first PSX was sold in Japan, and at the time the 32-bit system was way beyond anything that was out. It was the first console that wasn't squarely aimed at a younger audience, and it really set the tone for video gaming itself to this day. Sony manufactured the PlayStation with various cabinets until 2006...11 years is a pretty good run for a system, no?
The PlayStation console was released in North America and Europe a year later... that Christmas, a generation of American kids had their entire life-course altered.
