The 3DS is full of new features. The stereoscopic new widescreen display, the depth adjuster, the analog slider nub and an extra camera -- and that's just in addition to the already ridiculous amount of screens, buttons, inputs and more that were already standard parts of current DS models. There's one more little extra tagged onto this new piece of tech, though, that nobody's talked about so far -- the new Home Button.

Now, granted, the Home Button is far from sexy -- it's understandable that no one has really cared to mention it so far. But I think it's worth a bit of discussion, and it's early, and the show floor hasn't yet opened up again here for Day 2 of hands-on gaming. So let's dive into it for a bit.

Nintendo fans are familiar with the Home Button, as it's been a regular feature of the common Wii Remote for years. Placed in the center of the small, white controller between the Plus and Minus Buttons, Home is what you press when you want to pause a Wii game, quit back to the main Wii Menu, check your Remote's battery level or, if you're playing a downloadable title, consult the Operations Guide for info on your game. Many Virtual Console titles also employ Home to trigger their Save States -- if you stop playing your game by pressing Home to back out, your progress is recorded and you can jump directly back to that same point in the adventure the next time you click on it in the channel array. So Home's a versatile little button -- understated, but packed with useful functionality.
