In its financial results briefing today, Nintendo outlined several games coming out for the 3DS in 2018 and also promise to have titles release in 2019 and beyond as well.

It's hard to say though how much support they are talking about though.

It's good and how many years already for 3DS now, time flies...

3DS came out in end February 2011.
It's nice to see they keep supporting a handheld system for so long, but I don't really think it's really necessary to repeat that every single year as being a news article.
It makes it feel like "BREAKING NEWS! The tree at the end of the road will still remain a tree at the end of the road".

It does matter now given both its age and the fact the Switch is pretty much Nintendo's main hardware.

The other thing you might want to consider is that every handheld from the 3DS family is fully compatible with DS software (with very few exceptions like Guitar Hero, but I think the reason for that should be self explaining), and the DS has enjoyed an even bigger popularity.

Seeing both the enormous software library and the overwhelming popularity both the DS and 3DS families put together have, and the fact the Switch is not backwards compatible with any console (except for the NEOGEO Virtual Console to a certain degree), discontinuing the 3DS now would be rather unrealistic.

Even today I see quite a lot of people with a 3DS, in public transportation, in cafes, in electronic stores, etc.
