As we pass the one month anniversary of the general availability of Windows 8, we are pleased to announce that to-date Microsoft has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses.

“The journey is just beginning, but I am pleased to announce today that we have sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses so far.”

Wow, that's a lot of Windows 8 licenses. I guest those $39.99 upgrade to 8, and $14.99 upgrade to 8 when people bought a Windows 7 PC are helping drive sales. I also believe students from many colleges, universities, and City or Community colleges can buy Windows 8 for a lot less, or 8 is given away for free if your college made a deal with Microsoft student department.

I bet a lot of the licenses were sold on Black Friday to Cyber Monday Weekend where people at Walmart, BestBuy, and other stores which sold Windows 8 computers were having huge discounts on Windows 8 PC.

I guest people like cheap computers with cheap Windows 8 licenses.

I'm pretty happy with Windows 8 on my older PC since it use less RAM, and starts up a lot faster then Windows 7 for me, and also seems to crash less then 7 on my computer with 1GB of RAM.

it's been a month already? And I'm surprised so many sold. But the question now is how many will continue to be sold?

Windows 8 will continue to sell well since it is sold with Tablets, SmartPhones, Laptops, Desktops, All-In-One Desktop computers, and other types of computers and electronic devices. Plus, Windows 8 can run well on older computers with 1GB of RAM, and slower computer parts, so people who have older computers which are slow in Windows Vista and 7, will more likely pick 8 because it runs faster on older computers then 7 and Vista.

The Next Xbox, and the rumored Xbox Settop box come with Windows 8 installed, so once the Next Xbox and the rumored Xbox settop box is released there would be a lot of Xboxes with the Windows 8 OS.

I also recently read that Microsoft is working on a cheap or possibly free version of Windows called Blue which is Windows 8, but cheaper or free, so a lot of people will upgrade because of the price or because it is free.

All Windows 8 needs is a few $199.99-249.99 Windows 8 Tablet and laptops to make people buy it because of the low price like how Google made the $249 Google Chromebook with ChromeOS the top selling laptop on Amazon because it is cheap, and fast for a $249 laptop.
