Crazy to think Mario is now 40! I remember playing Super Mario Bros for the first time on a bootleg NES on a chip called the Super Joy III lol. No one in my family had Nintendo consoles when I was a kid, we were a Sega family. So when Pokemon got popular in the late 90's, this is where my interest in Nintendo stuff came along. In 2002 at a mall that had just opened up, my Grandmother took my sister and I Christmas shopping and a man at a kiosk was showing off the Super Joy III. That was the first time I had played the first Super Mario game. I did play Super Mario Land prior to that though. I got my Super Joy III for Christmas that year and even know it was a bootleg it opened up a new library of games for me.
I've mostly played Mario on the GBA, but also on the Gamecube (Sunshine and Sports titles) and Wii (Galaxy 1 and 2). It's great to bring people together through the shared experience of fun and straightforward games, usually a little easier compared to the other games at the time on the NES, SNES, and later consoles, with genuine quality.
