Engadget reports that the much-hyped 4K televisions that Sony debuted at CES this year will come in at a relatively reasonable price.

Unlike the $25,000 84-inch debut model released last year, Sony's 55-inch Bravia XBR-55X900A will retail for a fraction of the price at $5,000 and it's 65-inch XBR-65X900A will ring in at just $2,000 more. Both are currently available for preorder and will ship on April 21st.

According to the Verge, Sony also announced pricing and tentative release dates for the televisions' companion streaming box, the 4K FMP-X1. The puck-like device that debuted at CES and promises "true 4K resolution" will retail at $699 and be available for purchase sometime this summer. However, downloadable 4K video will not be available until the fall, so viewers will have to settle for a paltry 10 videos that are bundled with the system, including Bad Teacher and last year's Total Recall.

Sony's 4K line is finally making a big play towards the consumer market, and it will be interesting to see how it will affect the upcoming PS4 — particularly considering the company already announced the machine's ability to download 4K video.

I'm sorry, but your completely stupid if you buy something like that. Not to mention I wonder what the life span will be.

The 65-inch XBR-65X900A at $2,000 or more listed in the article above is a fair price for a 65 inch TV since there are 1080P 60inch and bigger TV which cost more than $2000 dollars even when you buy them from Amazon, and other online stores.

The $700 4K is smaller, and more people buy if they don't own a TV or need a new TV.

The TVs are made by Sony which usually make pretty good quality TVs since I don't really hear many stories of Sony TVs failing a lot, and I owned an older Sony TV which still work, so I expect Sony 4K TVs to last for many years since Sony makes expensive, but quality TVs which are made better than cheaper generic brands.

I agree $700 for a streaming box is expensive unless the Streaming box is also a Windows 8 desktop PC which you can use as a TV settop box, and regular Windows 8 computer with keyboard or mouse hooked up to a 4K TV like how people who use a desktop tower PC to play PC games, and watch video on their HDTV while also using their TV as a monitor for using Windows on their TV.

Woops, misunderstood what the $700 thing was. $700 for a 4K streaming box? Screw that.
This whole thing is overpriced. It's only double the resolution of my monitor (1080p) and yet it'll cost 20x more?

I bet the price of 4K TVs will come down when few people are buying them because of the high price, and competition from cheaper alternative 4K TV made by the South Koreans, Chinese, and Taiwanese which will sell cheaper 4K TV by using cheaper materials, low pay and less-skilled workers to make their 4K TV.

There are also always a chance of a fire sale for 4K TVs like the HP Touch Pad, Blackberry Playbook, Nexus Q and other electronics which weren't  selling well, so stores sold them at a huge discount to free up shelf space for something which can sell like the Amazon Kindle Fire, and Google Nexus 7.
