Every so often, an extremely rare NES cartridge makes its way onto eBay (or another marketplace). Since last week, one such cartridge has existed on eBay, and it's noteworthy not only because there aren't many of these carts in the wild, but because the asking price is $6,500.

Back in 1990, Nintendo held a one-off event called the Nintendo World Championships. The event spanned nearly 30 American cities, pitting gamers of various ages against one another in three different games: Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and Rad Racer. Any given player's final score was a tally of the three scores from each game, worked into a special equation.

There aren't many of these cartridges from the World Championships floating around, but they're out there. And every so often, one goes up for sale. As Wikipedia has chronicled, these cartridges go from a couple thousand dollars all the way up to over $20,000 for the special gold cartridge. The particular cartridge in question this time is a standard gray cartridge.

So the only question left is this: who will be the buyer of a rare piece of Nintendo history?

if I ever get my hands on a time machine, I'm going back to my younger self and tell him to get one of these.

I think I have like 6 nes games only.. And I cannot recall any of my friends owning such a cartridge, let alone the golden one. :/
