Swearing, sailor talk, bad words. However you say it, its everywhere and Kotaku has put together a nice article on the history of swearing in video games:
A hilarious, and strangely compelling, read. What's funny is, in most of those examples, the games were trying for a level of maturity and realism. They all failed spectacularly. I have to admit, though, I chuckled a bit when I got to this:
Haha, that's perfect. I didn't even think about Cid and Barret used to swear all the time in that game. Now that I think of it though, who doesn't have fond memories of that classic?
That aside, I think it was Leisure Suit Larry that stands out to me as one of the more vulgar games around.
I don't think I've played any of those games that they listed, but I was aware of Duke Nukem and of course have already played GTA. I guess I should have been paying more attention, but I honestly don't recall many games I've played with that have swearing in them, if any.
Awesome article. It was actually pretty weird at first knowing everything that was really put into this article, but honestly it wasn't bad at all.
If I had to rate it it would be a 10 star article!
