I didn't see this til now, but apparently, someone was once working on a fan remake of A Link to the Past in 3D:

It makes me kind of want to see what the whole game would look like in 3D, especially given how different the gameplay style and world design is in the 2D games as compared to the 3D ones.

Your thoughts on this concept and the cancelled fan game based on it?

It looks like a mix between Wind Waker and a bad flash game. Though if Nintendo remake a 3D Link to the Past, I think it would be cool.

When I look at fan games like this, especially those that are being made in 3D, I always try to remind myself when they look less then stellar that it's a heck of a lot better then I could do!

It's a neat concept, and I'd agree, it'd be cool to see an official version! I try not to get my hopes up about fan games, I've had my dreams dashed by too many promising looking Star Fox fan games. They almost always fall through when they've got any kind of large scope.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not making fun of it. Flash is hard and I respect anyone who can do anything with it.

I've never liked the 2d aspect of the game but I does make sense for all its features but think of it there's reasons why nintendo made it 2d like when link turns into the wall, never watched or played the game, what's the point when you can just walk round it which destroys the purpose and the enjoyment of the game

2D games just seem safe, simple, and fun. 3D games are more complicated, have their own set of rules, camera to deal with, different ways to fight enemies with shields. RPGs still seem easy to make whether you have 3D or not (as I get the general concept of how they work) but action/puzzle games like this seem like a puzzle to make. I don't blame them for wanting to give up on the idea, but man it looks really good and it looks like they did quite a bit of effort on it. Guess they didn't have time for it. And it would be silly to just have 4 directions in a 3D game too which also makes it a struggle to create fair enemies, so that's why it would be difficult.?

this is 1st for me, ocarina of time in 3d, Majora's Mask 3d in spring 2015 and now a Link to the past in 3d when they get around making new zelda on wiiu and stop with these remakes

Well this is a fan creation. It's also cancelled so... yeah.

This is not done by Nintendo. Also, stop posting a ton about 'no more new games just give us new zelda now'. We want a completed game. If we get a rushed game, we will be disappointed. Also, we'd probably get DLC, and nobody really wants to pay a ton of money to get an ok game.

'When link turns into a wall'.

You're thinking of a completely different game, bud. While A Link Between Worlds may seem similar to Link to the Past, they are different games, although they take place in the same world.

Also, Link to the Past basically had to be made in 2D. The SNES couldn't really make 3d games.

I think this is wonderful. I'm pretty bummed out it was canceled. It also looks kinda bad, but I know mine would look a lot worse. This guy put a lot of time and effort into a project and I applaud him for doing so.

Oh, you had me excited for a moment. You meant a 3rd-person remake like OoT, not 3D like LBW.  To be honest, a 3rd-person version would be interesting, Especially because, as you said, Nin, it would make the gameplay completely different. It would be even better if Nintendo picked it up and made it 3D like OoT 3D and the new Majora's Mask on 3DS.

Mind you, I'm not blaming you: I'm blaming the person who wrote the content of that URL you linked, but people need to be mindful of how they toss around the term "3D" nowadays. We can't just keep using it for "CG" and "3rd-person" as we used to since it takes on an entirely new meaning with current consoles and TVs and theater technology.

I'd say it's more like Pokemon X and Y's 3D than Link Between Worlds' 3D... technically third person 3D but at such an angle and with such a flat feel that it may as well not be.

You missed my point entirely, I feel. The term "3-D" shouldn't be used unless it is describing something popping out at you in an illusionistic style like Fantasy Life, Luigi's Mansion, or the Terminator 3D ride at Universal Studios, Orlando Florida. 3rd-person is a whole other ball game from 3-D nowadays. Thus, when I read "3D" I thought that Nintendo was announcing ALttP being remade using LBW's engine. And that screenshot you posted looks remarkably like Ocarina of Time 3-D's view and nothing even remotely close to X/Y's semi-bird's eye view. If it isn't actually 3-D then the correct title should be something along the lines of Revisited or Remastered or something. The graphics look like crappy Newgrounds flash at first glance, but the more I look at it I notice the lighting hasn't been placed in yet and that is mostly why (outside of bland tree-tops and ground textures currently). I never liked Wind Waker's style (actually so much so to the point it is one of the reasons I gave up playing it - got tired of looking at what I find to be ugly cell shading) and this is worse in some areas (such as the ground and pots) and better in others (those gravestones and octorocs look great). Once they add lighting effects it should shape up nicely, visually, I bet. I give the maker a lot of credit; if it controls well it could be a hit - although I bet Nintendo C&Ds it like Chrono Trigger: Ressurection got from S.E. Anything that looks like it will be great when the end result finalizes usually gets a red light from the concept creators / developers, it seems. We need more companies like Valve who do what they did with the first Portal: find people who are doing interesting things with their games via mods and then hire them to build a full game of it, thus making it an official game.
