A Super Mario Maker Calculator?

It's a bit old now, but damn, this is impressive:

It's basically a logic gate/circuit board setup with Mario Maker objects, that works out the sum of any two numbers by sending shells and bob-ombs flying all over the place. Here's a video:


So yeah, thoughts? Personally, I'm curious what could be done like this in a Super Mario World ROM hack or a Super Mario Bros X episode. I mean, far more level space + lots more custom objects could easily equal a much more advanced calculator or computer. We'd just need someone nuts enough to do that, and anti ASM enough not to just program it into the game...
 
Yeah, it's pretty impressive. Makes me wonder how they figured out this setup, given how strange Mario physics can get if you set up the level in a certain way. Was it a lot of trial and error? Some sort of mathematical calculation where you know what objects do what, exactly how the gravity and velocity and other stuff works, etc?
 
That's amazing! Some levels are easy, some levels are bullcrap hard, but this... this is genius.
