About 'weapons' in Super Smash Bros?

What's the general guidelines for what's 'allowed' in the series before it's seen as too realistic?

I mean, Fox/Falco/Wolf still have their blasters, the laser gun and super scope have always been items and Snake's explosives were allowed in Brawl.

But out of curiosity, do you think they could include the likes of K Rool's blunderbuss from Donkey Kong Country? It got allowed in an E rated game...

Is it just realistic weapons not allowed in the series?

It's just guns. Normal guns, that is, the kind that fire bullets.
Someone (I forget who, it may even have been Iwata himself) vetoed realistic guns, which is why Snake has none in Brawl. But anything else is fair game.

Rayguns and super scopes are still the most unique weapons but if you count the home run bat as like a real bat. then that would make it a "realistic" weapon.
