Please can you guys in the know of gaming on PC/laptop let me know what gaming laptops are affordable and decent. I'm not looking for a solid 1080p 60fps, just something that can run a range of games not available on PS4 (like the Xbox One 'exclusives')

I am currently looking at the Dell Inspiron i7559 but would like to know if anyone knows of something different/maybe slightly cheaper.

Wouldn't mind knowing myself as I need to upgrade my laptop as well. Though I wouldn't trust Dell brand.

The Asus GL551JW-WH71 with Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, 256 GB SSD, DVDRW, NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M Graphics, Windows 10 for £780.00 seems like a good deal for a laptop in your price range.

How does the 960M stack up against a regular 970 in terms of benchmarked performance?

According to a Dan on Quara:
The 970M hugely outdoes the 960M in some games, while others it just has a higher frame rate but both are still playable.

For example, the recently released Metal Gear Solid V game plays at 60FPS on the 970M while only having 37FPS on the 960M at Ultra settings 1080p.

Mad Max 77.9FPS vs the 960M's 45FPS at Ultra 1080p

GTA V 28FPS(67High) vs 18FPS(43 High) at Ultra 1080p

As you can see, the 970M has around 20-40% increase in fps over the 960M. The 960M still lets the games be playable, and you can often get 60FPS on games while bringing them down to lower settings.

Neither of these cards can play the Witcher 3 at Ultra 30FPS 1080p. The 960M plays medium settings at 48FPS 1080P while the 970M plays high settings at 47FPS 1080p.

Note that the inclusion of a good cooling solution can increase performance considerably. The 970M can do The Witcher 3 at Ultra 40FPS+ 1080p easily when in the presence of a high quality cooling solution.

that's expensive though, comes out to over $1000 USD.

I agree the Asus laptop is expensive. But, the Asus laptop is still cheaper than the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK which Martin linked to from Amazon. The Dell cost £824.99 which is $1188.98 US Dollars.
