read from CBR:

Alec Baldwin discharged a firearm on the set of Rust, leaving the director, Joel Souza, critically injured and the film's director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, dead.

Deputies from the Sante Fe County Sheriff's office were called to the Bonanza Creek Ranch set on Oct. 21 after receiving a 911 call saying an individual had been shot on set. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hutchins, 42, died from her injuries after a shooting incident involving a prop gun, which was fired by Baldwin, the producer and star of the Western film. According to the sheriff's department, Hutchins was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital via helicopter where she was pronounced dead.

The film's director, Souza, 48, was transported via ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center where he was in critical condition at the time of the report.

"We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set," said John Lindley, national president of the Local 600 labor union, and Rebecca Rhine, national executive director, in a statement. "The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild's family."

A spokesperson from the production stated that there has been an "accident" on the set which involved the "misfire of a prop gun with blanks." The statement continued, "Production has been halted for the time being. The safety of our cast and crew remains our top priority."

I saw this just now. The website for the local news channel here where I live is my home page whenever i get on the internet. So whatever the news for the day is, that's the first thing I see when I get on and that was the first thing that came up.

It sounds like it was just an accident and not something intentional. Positive thoughts for the family.

I saw this yesterday and honestly, I know it's in bad taste, but my first thought is that it sounds like the start of an Ace Attorney case where someone set it up to frame Alec Bladwin. Though, I do believe it was just a total accident.

I hope this incident will make film productions take employee safety more seriously. From what I've read in articles around this today prop guns misfiring doesn't seem out of the norm. Unfortunately this time it cost someone's life.

RIP Halyna Hutchins.

Hopefully, Joel Souza can fully recover from his gun shot injuries.

It is unfortunate that the staff was not wearing Bulletproof clothing on the set.

Someone is going to be in a lot of trouble. Apparently, the staff walked off on that day because they had concerns with safety so that's not a great sign.

Reminds me Brandon Lee who was also killed in a similar way.

I watch a news video that all the unionize staff walk off the stage because of safety concerns.

Baldwin said he did not pull the trigger:

Hopefully, Alec Baldwin can recover from his sadness caused by Halyna Hutchins getting killed by a gun on the set of "Rust".

I can't imagine being in his position. That must have been so traumatizing to accidentally kill someone.
