As you maybe aware, Sony will soon shut down the PlayStation 3 store which already patches are being discontinued. It has come to light that the PlayStation 4 could become a paper weight when it too meets this fate, that is due to an internal CMOS battery.
Yes, this battery can easily be replaced however once booted back up, the PS4 system will need to connect to a Sony server to reconfigure itself, if there is no server, the system will not work, even for offline games possibly.
Does It Play, a Twitter account dedicated to video game preservation and accessibility, claimed last month to have identified the issue, and called on willing members of the PlayStation community to help it gather evidence.
Twitter user Forest subsequently purchased a PS4 Slim and removed the CMOS battery to test it out. He found that he was unable play any physical or digital games offline without connecting to Sony’s server, instead receiving the error code “CE-30391-6”.
Unless Sony releases a firmware update that fixes this, the only way a PS4 can be played most likely is to homebrew the software.

If you want proof of the #cmos issue with ps4's then heres video. I took out the battery and put the ps4 back together. The result, no physical or digital games work offline without connecting to Sony's server. ALSO may cause game install data corruption @dark1x @Dachsjaeger pt1 pic.twitter.com/ltCmh6M6rH
