In a anti-competitive move that bumps up against one of Amazon’s core principles – “customer obsession” – the online retailer confirmed today that it would no longer allow the sales of some competing media players, including Apple TV and Chromecast, on its shopping site. Specifically, the company informed its marketplace sellers by way of email that no new product listings would be allowed and any remaining inventory would be removed from the site on October 29th.

This stinks for people who want to buy an Apple TV or Chromecast, and want to use their Amazon gift card to buy one.

Wow! I guess Amazon doesn't give a darn about fair play. I'm curious to see how Apple reacts to this.

Apple may make it possible for users to easily use Amazon Prime video on the Apple TV, so it could be sold on Amazon by following Amazon's rules. But, I feel Apple and Google will not react to Amazon to banning their Settop boxes since it is not hard for buyers to go to other online, and offline stores to buy their settop boxes.

Over the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime. It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion. Roku, XBOX, PlayStation and Fire TV are excellent choices.

Therefore, Amazon has implemented listing restrictions for the followings products:

o Apple TV o Chromecast o Nexus Player

It's common sense to ban competition, though they could have sold it for a lot more to make money.

Chromecast, and Apple TV could get un-banned if Google and Apple creates an Amazon Prime video app for their devices, or let Amazon publish an Amazon Prime video app to Chromecast, and Apple TV.

The Roku TV box is not banned because the Roku can easily watch Amazon Prime video, so it is following Amazon's new website seller rule for internet TV boxes.

I bet, in the future, Google Android tablets, smartphones, consoles, and TVs with Android may get banned if they don't have an Amazon Prime video app for them,

I heard Roku TV is pretty good because it has a lot of free online streaming channels, and it was mostly made for watching online video. Roku's user interface is nice as well.

I think one of the reasons that Roku was not banned because it is easy to use to watch Amazon Prime Video, and more users probably rather use Roku for watching Amazon Prime Video than the Amazon Fire TV because Roku is easier to use, and have a huge fan base.
