Amazon’s Fire TV has barely been on the market for a week and already the set-top box is sold out. Visiting the online retailer’s site right now, the listing shows an in-stock date of April 18—next Friday—meaning there might be a bit of a snag in the supply chain. Either demand is greater than Amazon expected, or the company only made just enough units to see how the device would be received. Maybe the company is trying to drum up hype, thus creating the illusion of demand (who knows).

Amazon has been pretty quiet about the Fire TV thus far. It would appear that sales are going swimmingly in the early going, but the company hasn’t said a word about any sales figures. Along with the Fire TV being sold out, Amazon’s Fire gaming controller has been pushed back to a May 11 delivery date; Amazon cites “popular demand” as the reason for the controller’s unavailability. If you plan on getting a Fire TV, our suggestion would be to get it now before the April 18 date gets pushed back even further.

It's crazy that Amazon Fire TV is doing so well for a new console which just got released, and had very little advertising, and hype until a few weeks a go.

I find it hard to believe it's being bought up like mad unless it's getting support from the kindle users. So I'll bet on they made enough to test the waters.

Most likely, a lot of people who bought the Fire TV already own a Kindle Fire 1, Kindle Fire HD, or Kindle Fire HDX. I think the Kindle Fire can also be used as a tablet controller for some games which support a second screen like the Wii U. There are also Kindle eReaders as well, and Amazon Prime users which may know of the Fire TV from Ads which Amazon send them to their devices.

I also believe, Amazon sends e-mails to people who bought something from Amazon because they have their e-mail, so even if a small percentage like 10% of Amazon.com costumers bought the Fire TV, the sales would be in the millions because Amazon.com is one of the most used shopping sites in the world used by hundreds of millions of people to buy, and sell stuff.

The Fire TV also had a huge banner ad on Amazon.com, and many other sites, so people know about it easily.
