Amazon is reportedly gearing up to release its first smartphone in June, followed by a release in September, according to a report published by Dow Jones that was cited by CNBC on Friday afternoon. The smartphone will, as we've heard in the past, sport some sort of 3D display that won’t require special glasses.
Cool, I like that Amazon's smartphone will have a 3D display without the need for 3D glasses. I wonder would Amazon Smartphone will make more less tech savvy users buy an Amazon phone like how the Kindle Fire are mostly bought by less tech savvy people who want a tablet which is easy to use, and is cheaper to buy than an iPad which cost $500 instead of $200 like the Kindle Fire.
The Nintendo 3DS is still selling pretty well. I think there is just not a lot of good 3D content, and companies who make 3D TVs are greedy expecting people to pay hundreds more for 3D.
I also notice a lot of people who watch movies at movie theatres still enjoy watching the 3D version since popular 3D films like UP, Kung Fu Panda 2, and newer Batman films are always sold out on Opening day.
It's selling for the games and not the 3D, the fact there is a 2D handheld (for the kid safety/less features or not) it still means Nintendo knows the 3D isn't a profitable market.
3D may not be hugely profitable, but I think it does increase the sales of the 3DS and 3DS XL to people who want to try out 3D without glasses, and 3D may convince some gamers that they are getting a better deal becuase of 3D video like how some people think Blu-Ray movies are a better value than DVD because of the higher resolution, and better sound, but they are the same movie, and the higher quality may not be very noticeable unless you sit closer to a nicer big screen TV with a good surround sound speaker system with a subwoofer, amps, and big speakers.
