Online retailer Amazon today suspended sales of the 3DS due to an unknown hardware issue with the flip-screen.
A notice posted on the 3DS' product listing page reads, "While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here."
Forum users have received responses from Amazon saying, "The flip-screen is loose when its opened, please inform them that Nintendo has confirmed as long as the upper screen locks into place, the unit is within Nintendo's design specification."
Other major retailers, such as GameStop and Best Buy, have not suspended 3DS hardware sales as of this time, however.
Update: It appears Amazon has lifted the sales suspension, removing the notice from the page. Nintendo still has not commented on what exactly happened.
Update 2: Nintendo has responded with this statement:
"An internal Amazon.com shipping issue triggered a brief hold on orders of Nintendo 3DS systems while the situation was reviewed, as is common in such matters. Amazon.com resolved the issue, and Nintendo 3DS orders have resumed. There are no issues with Nintendo 3DS inventory or quality. For additional information about this incident, please contact Amazon.com."
