According to Japanese analysts, the PlayStation 3 is pulling back from the brink of ultimate failure, hurtling toward a glorious day of vengeance, destruction and gloating.

Or something like that. Actually, it was more like: "Although Sony's game business has not been performing strongly, the first indications of the new lower-priced model's sales look likely to alleviate overly negative impressions of the business," said Nomura Securities analyst Eiichi Katayama.

Katayama went on to explain that the glorious PlayStation 3 will rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes of mediocrity to smite and destroy its enemies. Only he said it like this:

"The PS3 [all models] sold 65,000 units during the second week of November, showing substantial growth from the 16,000 units during the first week," said Katayama. "The sales exceeded forecasts by more than 50 per cent."
