No really. If you thought seeing a viral marketer was weird, imagine being stuck half bored on the ride back and hearing someone on the other side of the train talking on the phone about Nintendo games.

First the mention of Mario Kart and GoldenEye...

Then the mention of Nintendo magazines. I heard a reference to a 'Neil Long'. I thought it sounded too much like the editor of the Official Nintendo Magazine...

And this ended up being confirmed (not via me asking, just this person's overheard conversation). There was a mention of Official Nintendo Magazine (and the official magazines for the Xbox and Playstation), then of Future Publishing (who publishes most official magazines nowadays) and then some interesting little tidbits about restrictions on Nintendo magazine content.

Apparently, they're not allowed to publish things seen as 'unofficial' by Nintendo. And by unofficial, presumably things like references to fan games, unreleased games that have content leaked by people online, etc, but only in the magazine itself. Hence why their site covered Pokemon Black and White news (apparently taken from Serebii.net), yet the content never made it into the ordinary magazine issues.

It also confirmed something I read in an anonymous anti games journalism blog once, that Future Publishinbg have their headquarters in Bath (UK town/city).

Unfortunately, I didn't hear too much, but hey, that's two days of lucky spotting video game industry types in public.

Holy heck, talk about jackpotting, heh. That's some rather interesting information you eavesdropped on, Nin. Wish I could overhear stuff like that more often...
