Android vs iOS: A pointless argument

Let me start by saying that I have used way more smartphones in my life than the average person and have gone through and thoroughly tested phones from both platforms, I also read a lot about smartphones and I'm always up to date with the latest smartphone news, so this is not coming from your average consumer who only cares whether the camera "make nice pic or nah"

I have an iPhone. But that's not to say I don't like Android. I always cringe when I see an Android owner bash an iPhone owner. The entire argument is redundant, self-contradictory and ignorant. There is literally no point in going on about how your phone is the best in the world because at the end of the day, you're only saying that because you own that phone. If you owned another phone, you'd say the same about that. Humans are stupid and biased by default.

Both operating systems, as well as the devices they run on, are great in their own ways. At the end of the day it comes to what YOU want and what YOU need from a mobile operating system. Android is not better than iOS and vice versa. They simply excel in their own ways. For example Android offers a lot more customization on the home screen, yes, but iOS is a million times more smooth, consistent and bug-free across all the devices it calls home.

The point of this post is to say that you really shouldn't consider other people's opinions to a large extent. Yes, it does matter what major websites and phone reviewers think, but just because Bob has a Samsung and he thinks he is Thor and his Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Ultimate Platinum Gold 999GB 1TB RAM beast is his hammer, it does not mean its true.

Consider yourself when buying a product first and it's implications on your life because what smartphone you buy, at least in this day and age, is a rather important decision as you will be holding it, interacting with it and looking at it for a large portion of your daily life.

People are always going to have an opinion, and if a person thinks android is the better mobile OS, then they have every right to say just that.

I've had both iOS and android phones in the past, and while I've never had a problem with iOS as such, I just prefer Android as it suits me better. Asking for people to stop comparing the two is just futile though, and it's a discussion that will long continue, just the same as the consoles Vs PC, and PlayStation Vs Xbox arguments that we've had for many years already.

I don't think the debate will ever end. I like both and I think both have great benefits. I have also owned both iPhones and Android phones, and I personally prefer iPhone. Not because I think it's better, but it's just a personal preference. I agree that it's annoying to see others criticizing, but as pwarbi said, they do have the right to their opinions, even if they're rude about it.

Having your own opinion about a little piece of technology (and bigger things in life for that matter) is needed, true. But simply bashing say, iPhone users, because their tech is "overpriced piece of garbage" is hardly having your own opinion. The discussion could and should be more civilised than that. I've had a bunch of Android phones which I've really liked. But ultimately they all had their faults, which made me switch to iOS. And to be honest, I haven't had a crash (which was inevitable for Android) for 10 months. But then again iOS has its faults as well.

Maybe people are too sensitive about their own choices and try to vent their frustration by throwing obscenities.

That's one way if looking at it, but sometimes people have strong opinions that they want to get across so just tell it exactly as they see it without sugar coating it. If I bought an iPhone and found it was overpriced and kept crashing, in my eyes I'd be justified to say it's an expensive piece of junk. Just because you don't like that because you've not had a problem with yours, doesn't make it any less true in my eyes.

People can be wishy washy and try not to offend people, it they can just tell it like it is. I prefer the latter, even if I don't agree with the sentiment being stated.

I think some people like Android's operating system more because its open sourced, so people can freely make changes to Android without getting in trouble with Google, and the law. Some more advance users may feel more comfortable using an opensource operating system where they can look over the source code to see if there are any backdoors, and spyware built-into the OS. Some more advance users and companies can make their own version of Android which has more security features to prevent third-party companies from spying on them,

Opensource Computer Definition:

Computers. pertaining to or denoting software whose source code is available free of charge to the public to use, copy, modify, sublicense, or distribute.

Source

But, iOS is not opensource, so people could get in trouble with Apple, and the law if they copy, and make modifications to iOS.

I can't help but to go team Android. I love both phones even though I am biased. The apple brand has always had me psyched to buy their phone until the moment you realize that the memory is not interchangeable and that you must spend a lot more just to add more memory. I am someone that loved to have extra sd disk, just in case i feel like changing my whole outlook on everything that I am doing. I like to keep old sd disk like old mistapes and date them for sentimental value. Just can't seem to keep the tradition alive on an iphone.

There are now iPhone cases with built-in Memory cards built-into the case like the Sandisk iXpand Memory case. But, iPhone does not have Apps to External storage, so these memory storage cases for iPhone is just good for storing personal files like music, movies, pictures, and non-app and non-game files.
