Back in March, struggling retailer GameStop announced that it would be closing at least 320 stores over the course of the year. That number has now jumped to “between 400 and 450 stores”. Yikes!
As CNN reports, the company made the announcement last week, with CFO Jim Bell saying the closures would “allow us to more efficiently and profitably service our customers”, before adding that in addition to the 400-450 closures this year, there are already even more closures planned for 2021 as well.
Upon all those closures, Gamestop's total worldwide game store count will drop below 5,000.
Sad for the workers, not so much for the company. These gaming companies offering awful trade-in values have resulted in so many people hating them lol

While I’m not entirely defending these stores’ practices, as there are times they ARE ripping you off (see Xenoblade Wii debacle), there’s plenty of times I’ve seen where it’s the customer’s fault and not the stores’ fault.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen people cry that GameStopgave them chump change for a game They bought for $60, and they get incredibly angry when you ask what game it was, and you find out that it’s a game they now sell brand new for $20, which means the used version goes for even less.
You’d be surprised how many people think buyback prices at second hand stores are based off of the new price. Then there’s sports games older than the current year, which are the bane of any game stores’ existence.“I can’t believe GameStop gave me $1 for Madden 2018!” Dude, it’s 2020 right now...
