AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet. This service will no longer be available in AOL plans. As a result, on September 30, 2025 this service and the associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, which are optimized for older operating systems and dial-up internet connections, will be discontinued.

Honestly I'm still surprised they offered their dial up services. I know some places don't have access to fiber or even broadband internet so they have to rely on dial up. It's the end of an era. Also back in 2006 I was able to get online due to AOL, I ended up using a Yu-Gi-Oh card number when it asked for a routing number and was able to get a free trial for a bit lol. I was 16 and I didn't have a job nor a banking account at that moment.

Dial-up is better as a meme than real life. But when it was new, it was probably the goat.
It was absolutely mind blowing to be able to connect to the internet with ease. I can imagine the nerds who knew how to access the internet before AOL came to the market was also blown away lol. It was really boring having to wait around for websites to load though I don't miss that!
