According to new reports today, Apple has been adjusting their cost structure in regards to components of the iPad 3. Will this result in a lower entry-level cost for Apple's next generation tablet as well?

DigiTimes says the adjustment is being made "in order [for Apple] to compete with an array of tablet PCs to be launched by rivals in the second half of 2011."

Considering that tablets like the Motorola Xoom, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the HP TouchPad are all priced competitively alongside the iPad, a price cut may give Apple a new strategic advantage.

However, Apple doesn't often beat competitors on price. In fact, it's typically the other way around. While reports of Apple making adjustments in preparation for rival tablets may be true, the costs may be offset by adding more technologically advanced features to the device, a high definition screen perhaps.

Regardless, the reports further solidify speculations regarding the release of the next iPad in the very near future. Before production officially starts, let's just hope that Apple made sure to check out our list of everything we want in the iPad 3.
