It is no secret that Apple’s iPhones are hot sellers. In fact last we heard, Apple’s market share in the US smartphone market was at 43.5%, putting them head and shoulders above the competition, which is why it does not really come as a surprise to learn that apparently in terms of the smartphone industry’s profits, Apple is said to be raking in about 92% of it.

This is according to an estimation by Canaccord Genuity managing director Mike Walkley. According to their estimates, about 1,000 companies in the world make smartphones, but yet it seems that somehow Apple manages to take home about 92% of those profits. As for potential rivals such as Samsung, Walkley has estimated that the South Korean firm only takes home about 15%.

92 %  of smartphone profits is a large amount of profits for Apple. But, I bet, a lot of Android smartphone makers who sell cheaper phones may not make a lot of profits since they need to spend more money building phones by using more RAM like 2-4GB of RAM, and a faster Quad-Octacore CPU, so Android slowsdown less often, but Android makers still need to sell phones for lower prices than Apple because most phone buyers are less likely to pay higher prices for non-Apple smartphones.

There are also a lot of cheap Android phone makers which sell very cheap Android phones where the phone makers make a lot less profits, so they can take away buyers from smartphone makers like Samsung and HTC who make larger profits by selling more expensive phones.

Congratulations to Apple! They know how to make products that sell well... But...

92% + 15% = 107% ... How does that work?
Maybe, the article is talking about the profits from selling individual phones rather than all the profits from all smartphone sold. Samsung only makes a profit of 15% on each phone sold, so a $100  Samsung smartphone, makes $15 profit when you subtract the expenses  like cost of the phone parts, shipping and handling, packaging, and advertising while Apple makes 92% profit where they earn $460 on a $500 smartphone.

I think a lot of users buy Apple iPhones because they come with iOS, and they are guaranteed operating system updates for many years compared to a lot of Google Android smartphones where it takes a longtime to get operating system updates, or they never get updates after you bought the phone because the cell phone maker like Samsung, or cell phone service provider like Verizon does not release operating system updates for Android.

I also read on blogs that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus performance is faster than a lot of Android devices.
