Yes, I stop using USB flash drive on a regular basis because DropBox, Google Drive, and other online syncing storage programs automatically download files which I save to my online storage account to my computer drive whenever my laptop, PC, tablet, or other device is connected to the internet.

I also just send links to my files via E-mail or IM for people who need to download them instead of going to their computer, and plugging in a USB drive to copy and paste my files to their computers.

I find it more convenient and faster then walking to people PC to paste files to others PC.

Indeed, USB is a thing for many people since people are used to using it, and the news doen't really cover these programs like Dropbox which download and upload the latest version of your files to all your connected devices, and have an online version for back up just in case your PC, laptop, or phone is stolen, you can download the online backup, and you will still have your files you uploaded to Dropbox once you re-download them to your new computer via Dropbox folder sync program.

But, just relying on USB is not good since USB drives get stolen, broken, or lost somehow...

I still use USB and always will because you be screwed if the place you went didn't have internet.

You'll also be in trouble if your USB got smashed or lost because you dropped it on the floor, and a person, or car ran over it.

You can also install DropBox portable on a USB to save your files on your DropBox USB folder also to your online storage account, so you have two or more copies one on your USB, one online, and other PC and devices you have DropBox installed on, and signed in with.

These programs make backing up faster since you don't have to look for your USB in your pocket, bag, etc, and open up Windows Explorer to find which files you need to backup, and which you already backup because Dropbox automatically checks the internet to see which files you need to be downloaded to your computer, and which you already back up earlier with DB via the internet.

Syncing programs like DropBox, Google Drive, etc download and store your files on hard drives on all your connected devices at once when you connect your PC, phone, tablet, etc to the internet, so if you sync your files on a laptop, tablet, smartphone, or eReader by turning on your computer and connecting to the internet before you went somewhere else without internet, you still have a copy of your files on your devices and laptops which automatically download the latest version of the files to your dropbox folder on your drive, and if you did not sync them, but sync them with a older copy, you still have an older version of the file if you sync them earlier, but did not sync to the latest version.

You can also borrow Wifi  or use a wired internet connection from another PC, use your cell phone, tablet with a Cellular internet hotspot or built-in cellular internet like 3G, 4G, LTE, etc to access your online account by using a web browser to download your latest version of your files to your computer, cellphone, laptop, and other devices.
