Are landline phone jack surge protectors still needed for most phones?

If you still use a landline phone jack for a home phone, fax machine and dial-up modem it is a good idea to have a surge protector to protect your phone, dial-up modem and fax machine.

Many good surge protected power bars have a surge protected phone jack for protecting your phone line, so users might as well use the phone surge protector if they use a phone jack for their phone, fax machine, or dial-up modem.

I know mine come with ports for phone jacks, but I really don't use them.
